ISIS wing in Western Africa, the Islamic State-West Africa Province (ISWAP), continues to carry out attacks against military positions and civilians in Nigeria’s northeastern region.

On January 20, ISWAP terrorists stormed the Christian town of Bemi in the State of Borno without facing any real resistance. After taking over the town, the terrorists set two local churches and several houses on fire.

During the attack, the terrorist also slaughtered a civilian man. The Amaq news agency released several photos from the horrifying attack on January 24.

On January 21, ISWAP terrorists shelled a camp of the Nigerian Armed Forces near the town of Goneri in the state of Yobe with a Soviet-made D-30 122 mm howitzer. Amaq shared photos of the indirect fire attack on January 24.

ISWAP has been spreading its radical ideology with much success in Nigeria’s northeastern region, mainly in Borno and Yobe.

The terrorist group appears to be determined to further strengthen its presence in the northeastern region this year. Nigerian government forces will have to make much more efforts to put an end to the group’s insurgency before it is too late.
