On December 21, four people were killed and seven others were wounded as a result of a series of Turkish artillery strikes that targeted several towns and villages held by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the northeastern countryside of Syria’s al-Hasakah.
The Turkish military and its proxies shelled the towns of Tell Tamer and Abu Rasin, as well as the nearby villages of Umm Harmala, Mazra, Tell Amir, Tell al-Ward, al-Rabi`at and al-Asadiya.
Turkish-backed militants attempted to advance towards the outskirts of the village of Umm al-Kayf under the cover of the artillery strikes. However, they were pushed back by SDF fighters.
All the people killed in the Turkish strikes were civilians, including a 60-year-old woman and her 30-year-old daughter. Furthermore, five of the wounded were service members of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) who maintains a network of posts around Tell Tamer.
The SDF responded to the attack by shelling Turkish military posts in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah. Three Turkish-backed militants were killed.
The Turkish artillery strikes, which were likely the heaviest to target SDF-held towns and villages in northeastern Syria this year, are alarming to say the least.
A few months ago, the Turkish military and its proxies were reportedly preparing to launch a large-scale operation against the SDF in northern and northeastern Syria. However, opposition from the US and reinforcements deployed by Russian forces and the SAA in these regions forced Turkey to put its plans on hold.
Recently, Syrians sources revealed ongoing talks between Damascus and Ankara on the situation in northeastern Syria. The Turkish artillery strikes on SAA posts in the region will likely hinder these talks.
How come they wear army uniform they’re terrorists they are a traitor..
SAA were in Uniform not SDF learn to read…
“five of the wounded were service members of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) who maintains a network of posts around Tell Tamer.”
