On August 3, a large explosion rocked al-Sha’irat airbase in the eastern countryside of the central governroate of Homs.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said in a short press release that the explosion was a result of a technical error that occurred during the transfer of expired ammunition.
“The explosion occurred this afternoon as a result of a technical error during the transfer of expired ammunition and led to a number of martyrs,” the press release reads.
A Syrian military source told the RT TV that 28 Syrian soldiers and officers were killed in the explosion, which also caused heavy material damage in the airbase.
Located in the heart of Syria, al-Sha’irat is one of the key airbases of the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF). In 2017, a U.S. missiles strike targeted the airbase in response to the alleged Khan Shaykhun chemical attack. However, the airbase returned to service within a few hours.
Last year, a similar accident occurred in Hama airbase. Several ammo depots inside the airbase were completely destroyed as a result of poor safety measures.
To be honest most of Syrian officers have been taken on high bribes or on relation bases therefore, we see the destruction of Syria.
Awaiting for Israeli “informed sources who wished to remain anonymous” to claim they attacked this base using their magical airplanes.
The way they handle/mishandle their ammo is appealing, there isn’t one combat footage where is done right.
The habit mixing confiscated and storage,, rebel ammo with newer stocks is just idiotic, old/untrusted/damage just blow it up somewhere safe
Poor munitions handling seems to be an endemic problem with Arabs.
The soviets had their share of catastrophic accidents too. And Russia is no golden example either. They are becoming better though. Besides these people are tired from war and probably desentisised to danger.
Could you please be so kind and give some examples of Russian accidents with a comparable number of personnel casualties? Maybe you are referring to Ukrainian army? Here the video, you can’t mistake the army because of white lines on the vehicles: https://youtu.be/rBq5OYzVaZ0
A example for soviet times catastrophes is Dannenwalde 1977. Soviet times where wild, so you will find more if you like. They made the largest non nuclear explosion in history with the N1. The USA even lost nukes, so it was bad on both sides during that time. A Russian example is the Kursk. When you want to see what I consider bad practice, just look how they set up the storage for the arctic S400 base.
Those Ukrainians though, are they on drugs?
Kursk is not about handling munitions, as far, as I know. As for Ukrainians, cameramen says only about the man who stands near the howitzer, that he is drunk before ask him to dance. All the rest, at my point, just stupid.
I’m not sure what your last sentence means. Anyway, can you name a country, that does handle ammo well in your opinion?
Well, I can try to explain my last sentence. In the video, cameraman, says that the guy near the howitzer is drunk. After the cameraman says it, he asks the man near the howitzer to dance and the man starts dancing. So there was, for sure, one drunk solder.
Other soldiers doesn’t appear drunk or high. But, because of low level of training and education, Ukrainian solders can’t effectively follow the needed procedures. In my opinion, Ukrainian solders can’t be educated properly because of their stupidity. It’s not kinda hate, but analysis of numerous facts. Even some of US serviceman who trained the Ukrainians are not very optimistic over the intellectual capabilities of Ukrainian personnel.
As for countries which deposit ammo well, you can look at the first 20 armies from the world military strength ranking. I think in all these armies handle ammo in a proper way, but there always be the human factor.
How come Yemen is safe of that?
waiting on confirmation

Costly mistake even an Israeli attack wouldn’t have accomplished this. They really need to have proper health & safety systems implemented.
America again showed we are the best………………LOL. Our new stealth invisible F-35 Air-fighter fired an invisible missile into a weapon transport that threatened Americas Allies, and nobody understand where it came from…………….LOL. 1-0, your turn……….LOL.
Nonsese!..American lost a sofisticate drone and failed to shot down Irani drone…thats the true…the other is a fantasy!
ONLY LIES ARE COMING FROM THE UNITED SATANIC STATES OF USRAHELL… FUCK WASHINGTON & HELL AVIV
The only thing invisible Tommy is your brain LOL
Not needed Israeli airstrike or terrorist attacks…sometimes SAA full of bad commanders, officers and tactics do the war for others causing casualities among themselves especially on summer and with ammo depots….thats why Israel dont want Iran troops or Hezbollah inside Syria…and even less with sofisticate weapons!…because they know that SAA are useless and not a reliable force!
Resulted in martyrs. Really.
R. I. P innocent soldiers
Russia and Syria are shittholes that wont be around much longer .
in inbred minds yes.
I predict Russia will be around a lot longer then Canada!
an expired munition called f 35
Sad loss, 28! WTH Ammo depots and bunkers are in isolated areas for a good reason. Poor safety measures involved in moving expired munitions in the high heat?
my God, my thoughts and prayers go out to the lost soldiers and their families/friends
This must be something deeper, maybe an infiltrator or so.
RIP. Every country has had some accidents with munitions, never mind countries at war who process them daily in large quantities. Expired munitions got to be the worst of the lot though. I’d hate to work with them.
