Situation in the sky
Ukrainian UAVs attacked the Russian city of Engels in the Saratov Region at night. The Air Defense Forces’ units shot them down, but there is a hit of debris on an industrial facility. In the Rostov Region 5 drones were destroyed, in the Bryansk Region – 3, several more – over the Belgorod Region, 1 – over Berdyansk in the Zaporizhzhia Region. In just one day, Russian Air Defense units shot down 6 HIMARS missiles and 105 fixed-wing drones.
In response, Russian aviation, attack drones, missile forces and artillery struck the infrastructure of Ukrainian military airfields, accumulations of manpower and equipment as well as foreign mercenaries in 147 areas. The strike also hit the assembly and storage site of drones.
Situation on the fronts
In the Kursk Region, the Russian Armed Forces (RAF) have been holding back the Ukrainian troops’ onslaught in the Sudzha – Bolshoye Soldatskoye direction for the third day. Kiev repeatedly threw infantry and armoured vehicles into the battle, but did not succeed. The Ukrainian side lost at least 35 armored vehicles, including Western-made tanks, as well as more than a few hundred personnel in those attacks. Ukrainian soldiers captured in the Berdin farmstead area said that up to 50 percent of their infantry were prisoners or forcibly mobilized persons.

The RAF took advantage of the adversary’s distraction by these politically motivated actions and launched an offensive. The Russians managed to enter Malaya Loknya on the northern flank and advance in Makhnovka, a couple of kilometers from Sudzha. They are also completing the assault on the village of Russkoye Porechnoye, but there are still fierce battles for Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.

The Northern group of Russian Armed Forces reports an advance of several kilometers, which is a significant result. At the same time, the Ukrainians are continuing to transfer assault troops of elite units to the Sudzha border area – the Ukrainian grouping has increased by more than 600 people over the day.
In the Kursk direction, there has been an unprecedented number of combat sorties by Russian aircraft. Bombing raids from the air are going on non-stop.

The village of Leonidovo is under the control of the Russian military. They are also conducting assault operations in Alexandria and in the direction of Nikolskoye.

In the Krasnolimansk direction, Russian units are developing success in Ivanovka (right bank of the Zherebets River).
In the Toretsk (Dzerzhinsk) direction, fighting along the main streets has shifted to the western and northern parts of the city, where the remaining Ukrainian units are holding their defenses. They are deploying many drones to strike Russian assault groups, but the current situation for the Ukrainian Armed Forces is unenviable. Russian reserves are reported to have arrived. We can expect Toretsk to fall soon.

East of Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk), Russian forces are making their way to the road junction north of Vozdvizhenka while fighting continues in neighboring Elizavetovka and Baranivka. The Russians are trying to cut off the Pokrovsk supply routes from the west.
There is fighting in the Lysovka-Dachenskoye-Zelenoye area 4km south of Pokrovsk. The RAF are also on the move southwest of the city, attacking in the direction of Zverevo and Kotlino.

Kurakhove has been completely captured by the Russian army. A “pocket” appears again to the west of the city, which causes panic in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The fighting in this direction continues. Russian troops have already taken over Petropavlovka, and have expanded their zone of control south-west of Zelenivka.
The moral and psychological condition of the Ukrainian army has substantially worsened. Case in point: the desertion of 50 Ukrainian servicemen from the Anna Kievskaya brigade while they were training in France. On their return home to Ukraine, another 1,700 men left the brigade unauthorized. Amid this, the Verkhovna Rada announced that the mobilization age in Ukraine would be lowered to 18 years in 2025.

On the political front, US President-elect Donald Trump gave a big interview at his residence. Some of his main statements on Ukraine included:
the new White House administration hopes to end the conflict in Ukraine in six months;
Russia’s feelings can be understood within the statements about the inadmissibility of Ukraine joining the NATO military alliance, as such a view was present on all sides, including Russia and the West;
John Biden is the main culprit of the conflict in Ukraine, which was provoked by the incompetence of his administration.
