Palestinian armed factions continue to attack the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in the Gaza Strip using sniper rifles, rocket-propelled grenades and mortars.
The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas Movement, released on February 9 video footage showing its snipers gunning down two Israeli troops and other fighters targeting a bulldozer and several main battle tanks with rocket-propelled grenades. The attacks took place in Gaza City’s neighborhood of Tell al-Hawa in northern Gaza.
From its side, the al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, released two combat videos on the same day.
The first video shows an attack with rocket-propelled grenades against two IDF vehicles in the western parts of the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, while the second shows a mortar attack on Israeli troop gatherings in Gaza City.
The IDF didn’t report any casualties in the last 24 hours. The death toll from ground operations in Gaza remains at 226, with more than 1,300 other troops wounded.
Despite facing fierce resistance, the IDF is currently preparing to launch a large offensive in southern Gaza. The target will be the town of Rafah, which is located right on the Strip’s border with Egypt. Israel intensified strikes on the town and nearby areas in recent days.
So far, Israel has failed to fulfill any of its state goals in Gaza. Hamas and other factions are still heavily armed, their top leaders are still alive and not a single Israeli hostage in the Strip has been freed by force, so far. The attack on Rafah may be the IDF’s last ditch attempt at scoring a victory in this war, which has so far claimed the lives of more than 27,000 Palestinians.
