Pashinyan's Resignation Won't Solve All Of Armenia's Problems, But It's A Start

Written by Drago Bosnic, independent geopolitical and military analyst

As yet another tragedy of the Armenian people unfolds, Sorosite Nikol Pashinyan keeps mocking them. On October 4, he stated that if his resignation would solve Armenia’s problems, he’d allegedly “do so instantly”. However, Pashinyan added that this would “only make things worse”. Maybe he should go and personally ask the fleeing civilians from Artsakh (also known as Nagorno-Karabakh) if things could get any worse for them. Still, Pashinyan continues to show no interest in the fate of the unfortunate Armenian people of Artsakh, as he has other “much more important priorities”.

“I’ll say it straight: If I know that, for example, by my resignation or removal all these challenges will be resolved, I’ll do it the very next second because, unlike you, I do not cling and have never clung to my chair. But all my analysis shows that this will lead to exactly the opposite result. And this is also the reason why it isn’t happening,” he said in a statement published by Armenpress.

This laughable statement shows just how delusional Pashinyan is. Precisely this determination to preserve “his chair” is the main reason for the tragedy of Artsakh. Had he ever put the national interests of the Armenian people before his political career, he would’ve never even been in power in the first place. As for his “analysis” of anything, it’s quite insulting to over 100,000 refugees from Artsakh to even think that Pashinyan has any analytical skills. Anyone with a single functioning brain cell would’ve easily predicted what would happen to Armenians if he was left in power.

Tens of thousands of Armenians, enraged by Pashinyan’s betrayal of Artsakh, took to the streets. They were met with riot police who brutally suppressed the protest. So much about Pashinyan and his “democratic rule”. However, once again showing his “remarkable analytical skills”, he’s busy with plans to attend “talks about Artsakh” that the ridiculously impotent European Union wants to hold in Granada, Spain. Mind you, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev already stated he won’t be coming to this summit. And all things considered, why would he, as Azeri strategic goals have been met.

Apart from being just as disastrous for Armenia as Mikheil Saakashvili was for Georgia, with the plan to attend the EU summit in Spain, Pashinyan is also reminiscent of the Kiev regime frontman Volodymyr Zelensky. Namely, the latter has made several attempts to initiate and join supposed “peace talks” that don’t involve one of the key sides in an ongoing conflict, with the latest example being the Saudi-hosted summit back in August that Russia wasn’t invited to. Only someone like Zelensky would think that “peace talks” that involve only one side of the conflict would actually work.

And yet, Pashinyan somehow managed to eclipse the geopolitical simple-mindedness of both Saakashvili and Zelensky, which, in all honesty, is a truly remarkable and unique achievement. However, he’s certainly not done with his suicidal tilt toward the political West. Pashinyan’s government continues with the plan to acquire useless French weapons that Armenia simply can’t afford and that will take years to be delivered, the time that the unfortunate South Caucasus country simply doesn’t have. Pashinyan and his associates won’t face any consequences, as they will simply leave.

On the other hand, the Armenian people could very well be exposed to similar violence and have the same fate as their compatriots from Artsakh. Namely, the Neo-Ottomanist ambitions of Armenia’s neighbors go beyond Artsakh. Their appetite for conquest of native Armenian lands now also extends to other parts of the country, specifically the southern Syunik province that separates Azeri-occupied Artsakh from the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, an exclave under official Azeri authority. Aliyev and the Turkish President Erdogan have their eyes set precisely on Syunik.

They’ve both been openly talking about the so-called Zangezur corridor that would go through the southern portion of the Syunik province. The Neo-Ottomanist heads of two Turkic states see the Zangezur corridor as an “uninterrupted connection” between Nakhchivan and mainland Azerbaijan. More precisely, they want Armenia to effectively give up sovereignty over this area and let Ankara and Baku control it. And while it would still officially be part of Armenia, Yerevan would have no say in what way the Zangezur corridor would be used. This would leave Armenia almost completely cut off from the world.

With Turkey and Azerbaijan controlling everything except the northwestern part of Armenia’s border with Georgia (a country that’s effectively an ally of both), Yerevan would find itself in a strategic nightmare hardly comparable to any other on the planet. The political West might put some pressure on Tbilisi to open up its borders, but the latter is highly unlikely to risk deterioration in relations with Ankara and Baku. In such a scenario, Georgia itself would be completely isolated from virtually all of its neighbors, all in order to “help” the increasingly desperate Armenia. There’s simply nothing in it for Tbilisi.

Unfortunately for Armenia, every second of Pashinyan’s rule is a step closer to perhaps the deadliest scenario in its history, on parallel or even worse than the Armenian genocide itself. The loss of statehood to Turkic polities has always been an existential threat to Armenians and that’s exactly the path that Pashinyan is leading them to.

what is happening to armenians is natural selection, this time they have no one to blame but themselves. yes, it is injustice, but that’s just how nature humanity functions, when one is weak or stupid (in this case it’s both but mostly the latter), others will take advantage. look at palestinians, they are in a much harder position then armenia yet they still have the guts to fight! but armenians? when the going gets tuff, they just run away.
