Patrol Ship Sergey Kotov Of Russian Black Sea Fleet Lost Last Battle Against Ukrainian Unmanned Boats

Illustrative Image

On the night of March 5, Ukrainian forces supported by the NATO military launched a massive combine attack on the Crimean peninsula. Explosions of thundered near the cities of Kerch and Feodosya in the east of the peninsula.

One of the targets was the Crimean Bridge. Russian air defense forces repelled the attack and the bridge received no damage. Any details of the strikes are yet to be revealed.

At the same time, Ukrainian unmanned surface drones targeted the patrol ship Sergey Kotov of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. As a result of the battle, the ship sank near the eastern coast of the Crimean peninsula.

The crew of the patrol ship accepted the battle and was fighting to the last in an attempt to save the ship. According to unconfirmed reports, in total Sergey Kotov was targeted by about 15 unmanned boats, 10 of which were destroyed. At least three boats struck the ship in the stern and in the engine compartment.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has published footage of the defeat of Sergey Kotov:

Some Russian sources reported that the attack took place near the port of Feodosya. Some other media cited their military sources, reporting that the ship came under attack in the Kerch Strait 9 km from Cape Takil. If the unmanned boats were moving in the Kerch Strait, it should not be excluded that the target of the attack could be the Crimean Bridge and the crew of Sergey Kotov thwarted it, sacrificing the ship.

Sergey Kotov sent a signal for help to the duty station of the joint group of troops for the defense of the Crimean Peninsula after midnight. The crew reported that the ship was subjected to a massive attack. At least one Russian Mi-8 helicopter reportedly came to the area to provide air support. Several unmanned boats were destroyed by fire with machine gun from the helicopter.

The attack was too massive, and several drones reached the target. According to Russian reports, 2 tugboats came to the rescue. 55 crew members were immediately evacuated, including six wounded sailors. The other ten sailors remained on board to bring the damaged ship to port; but their efforts brought no result. At about five o’clock in the morning, the patrol ship Sergei Kotov sank five kilometers from Cape Takil. The crew reportedly suffered no casualties.

The patrol ship Sergei Kotov entered service with the Russian Navy on July 30, 2022 and was one of the newest ships of the Black Sea Fleet. During its short service it won at least three battles against Ukrainian unmanned boats. The ship was chased by Ukrainian forces.

In July 2023, the crew two unmanned surface drones by fire from the standard armament of the ship at a distance of about 1000 and 800 meters in the western waters of the Black Sea. In August 2023, the crew repelled the attack of two more boats. In September 2023, Sergei Kotov destroyed five more Ukrainian unmanned boats.

The mass production of unmanned boats in Ukraine, launched with support of NATO countries, including Great Britain, allows to increase the number of boats used for a single attack on Russian ships. At the same time, the Russian Navy is yet to learn how to protect the ships and coastal waters from small unmanned boats. The constant Russian strikes on Ukrainian warehouses and workshops in the Odessa region are yet to stop Ukrainian attacks.

imagine if one of those tugboats was already present, and had a 50 cal with a thermal. none of those drones would have made it to their target. hell why not a jetski with a 50 cal on the back? but yeah why take measures to protect your people and your resources when you could also become content for fat americans and ukro slaves to laugh at? do russians just actually enjoy being in these videos or what?

russian ministry of defense, if you are reading this. please, let me buy you a sea-doo jetski. it has enough space in the back to mount and control a 50 cal machine gun, and can go over 100kmh. it will outrun any of these ukrainian drones and solve your naval issues overnight. think about it please. 1 jetski is what you need.

BunkerDwellers

if they don’t do something, they’re definitely going to lose more ships.

Clyde

embarrasing to watch, muh muh redlines

BunkerDwellers

the russians don’t forget, and they are called the bear for a reason. once you piss them off they don’t stop when you say how sorry you are. if you’re hunting bear you need to kill it instead dancing around like a fairy pufta pissing it off.

Clyde

no more kalibrs? boom boom gone with the black fleet 😭

as you can see, clips like these attracts incels such as this one, when it could all have been avoided.

i am sure the houthi will be doing this to the ussa soon in the red sea.

Kual Svinus

they did today.

houthis wackos attack civilians boats, not military. they are a bunch of cowards.

Cyde

russia is revealing itself a paper tiger really, not sure whose worst, russian navy or airspace forces…

BunkerDwellers

russia doesn’t have much of a maritime tradition.

Sunny

you dont need a “tradition” to deal with basic shit like this. those drones are literally just a bigger version of those rc toy boats that you played with as a kid. it’s not magic. i was not even joking when i said that a single jetski will be able to deal with this. it doesn’t take much to deal with these drones at all.

BunkerDwellers

they are coming from multiple directions at the same time, 5-10 jetskis could definitely work. a few high quality machine gun turrets on the ship would work too. us destroyers aren’t much better. russians have lost 4 ships iirc at least in the black sea. their navy doesn’t seem to be where the best and brightest go. it seems like the world has quit putting in effort until it nukes itself.

BunkerDwellers

i suspect it has to do with all the poison food and poisons everywhere in all consumables and obsession with pharmaceuticals, which are all bad for you.

Piipii

these ships were not designed against drones. not in russia, not in the usa, not anywhere. this is a completely new type of warfare and will completely change the way we fight. battleships died during world war ii. yamato and bismarck were lost to aircraft. now the same is happening to other ships.

Sunny

lol please shut the fuck up. you’re again making it sound as though it’s magic. those drones are essentially remote controlled zodiacs that are coming at you, at a slow-medium pace. all you have to do is shoot at them. if you wanna know how to do that, just read my comment above.

Piipii

i’m twisting iron: look at the previous sinking video, it clearly shows the problem. weapons on the deck do not point down. there are no weapons to fight back. i agree that by increasing armaments the problem will go away and that will certainly happen. no one has been able to prepare for this in advance. neither did the israelites who drowned.

Sunny

are you some kind of fucked up version of chat gpt or what? nothing you just said has anything to do with my comment.

Cromwell

it only takes one to get through, and there is always that one, i would like to know where they are launched from, could be nato romania.

Jean Paul France

the pathetic loser who always finds justification for his losses. what country are you from, you shit-eating subhuman???

Cromwell

its the same with aircraft carriers, they have been obsolete since my uncle was a oarlikon gunner on hms victorious in ww2, the ship survived but was hit three times by jap kamikaze. now russia has the best anti ship missiles in the world, time to give some to the houthis to take some nato ships down.

kotromanic

there is a big difference you sink 1 us ship they will nuke you they will not ask questions they will not hesitate and the world media will all defend it. it is like it is russia is the bad guy no matter what they do so they should just embrace it and arm militant groups all over the world to commit attacks on western nations. as long as this just costs ukrainian lifes and numbers in a computer it will go further and further.

Sunny

sure they might come from multiple directions. but you underestimate how unbelievably agile and fast a jetski can be. obviously more than 1 jetski would be better. but the point is that it really is not that difficult to deal with these drones. on a $100.000 budget you could viably defend multiple ships this way.

Piipii

you yourself seem to have problems with reading comprehension. you talk about jet skis, they don’t work in sea conditions. the weapons on deck are powerful. but they don’t point down. moving them or rather adding more them to the sides solves the problem without stupid jetskis. in addition, a radar that recognizes small objects is needed. that’s the biggest problem with these ships right now

Sunny

>they don’t work in sea conditions

no? i do seem to have a recollection of traveling the med with one. no they don’t have a radar but your support ship does. they tell you an object approaches. you aim your machine gun and shoot. it really isn’t more complicated than that.

you speak of improving russian ships. does it seem to you that they are about to improve anything? they’ve already lost their entire fleet.

BunkerDwellers

agree some people with $100k could deal with these on-water naval drones. smart torpedoes/underwater drones will probably be a death knell for many types of naval ships.

Sunny

torpedos are indeed a great threat to ships, just the thing is, ukraine is not currently using torpedos. they are using much more basic and primitive tech.

Nobodyinparticular

perhaps some fast patrol boats would be more practical than a jetski, it was 5 months since the last attack on this ship so you’d need a crew big enough to stand watches 24-7, and low in the water it would be more difficult to spot the black drone in the black sea under the black moonless skies, the darkest nights are those to be most wary it seems.

Cromwell

but i believe they are just below the surface.

Piipii

no one can, at least two similar israeli ships have been sunk in the mediterranean. the media is pretty quiet about them.

Gaxkang

take odessa is the solution

Piipii

the peculiar aspect of this conflict is that the likes of “cyde” laugh at one defeat as if the war was won or lost (depending on your point of view). abramses are popping up here and there, which were supposed to destroy the entire russian army. but individual events do not matter on a large scale.

JohnJohn

a paper tiger that now owns the most valuable parts of what had been ukraine

how many of natos kiev armies has that paper tiger now destroyed? i think this is the 3rd army kiev has lost and now are forced to kidnap women and cripples to try and build another?

nato has used its entire weapons stockpile and somehow lost even more territory

Fqgqhhs

a powerful water pump can create a wall of water around the ship. it’s used to avoir commercial tankers to be attacked by smal boats.

Hipp

– a lot of suicide drones and drones with bombs on the deck of the ship, to active attack the boats from air.

only if we put a russian flag on them 🥲

Easy

a small-sized mine launching system installed on a ship would be a cheap and effective way to fight these drones. mines would be launched on approach of the drones. each such mine would be too small in size to damage the ship but more than enough to destroy the drone(s).

luckily russian navy officers are dumb and gullible enough to pretend to fight these drones with small arms and they get the reward they deserve.

kre

this must be the worst suggestion i have ever seen ngl…

Piipii

some kind of protective belt that goes around a little further from the ship. a towed mine chain could also work. personally, i would invest once and for all in automatic defense weapons. gatling guns are good against air targets, but do not bend to the water line. more guns on deck would end the whole threat.

AH = 4 × p × rS2

…when will russia finally realize that the british navy has long since taken control of the black sea?

capture such a drone, copy it and send the plans to iran and the houthis!

hash

Pierre

i think the same. killing the russian black sea fleet is a major goal of nato in the ukrainian war, especially the british. one ship after the other, they won’t stop unless the fearing *significant threat* and by that i don’t mean direct retaliation. unfortunately it is quite late and the bear has been slow to prepare deterrence. an example of what would makes british think twice: providing “adequate weapon” to argentina (think malvinas/falklands), and ansar allah, years before now.

IMHO

why the hell do they have to copy those drones????? they would be easy for any intelligent country to make. there is nothing special about them.

iran has had a swarm doctrine for a while now, so why don’t the houthis already have swarm drones???

Kravata

the english will soon get a nuclear sponge, the russians will have a good revenge.😎

Tom

a ship with cannons is not a solution for drones. i don’t know how in the black sea fleet they don’t understand that you can’t destroy an annoying mosquito with a mallet. to destroy small mobile targets you need small nimble zodiac boats with night vision and machine guns as for coastal patrolling.

anti-radar lines are pretty pointless in the era of ubiquitous satellites, drones and ever better computer image recognition. clearly, the russians with a long history of not having much for warm water ports have spent their time on submarines. not that their navy is worse than the wests but in number. these ships desperately needs retrofitting to deal with drones or they are almost as pointless as otan spending money on leopards and abrams.

this activity is controlled from the air. follow flightradar, it regularly shows how a p-8a poseidon reconnaissance plane takes off from crete and circles for hours right on the romanian border

BunkerDwellers

that won’t stop naval drones in the next phase of the war, they need retrofitting or to just go with subs and their own drones. instead of aircraft carriers, a new type of command and control naval ship for sea based drones.

CEO of Yapping

even if they take it nato launch these drones from other countries and just play ignorance (russia end up getting closer to the problem – it wouldn’t stop the attacks).

russia should play their game so they realize they can’t do that anymore… guess what a group in yemen would be happy to sink some ships heading to israel, uk, and the us… i’m 90% sure if russia give some underwater drones to houthis their problem stop.

p.s. nato have no role in these attack nor russia in the red sea.

Last edited 1 month ago by CEO of Yapping
Piipii

what do you mean no role. on these pages there is a video of the briefcase that controls the drone. all controls are written in english. i was just commenting how the p-8a poseidon is circling for hours on the romanian border and giving intelligence, maybe even guiding. nato is fully involved, in fact ukraine is only marginally involved.

CEO of Yapping

yes, that is what we call sarcasm buddy… sorry it went over your head.

NATO is laughing at you

hahahahaha hahahahaha hahahahaha hahahahaha hahahahaha hahahahaha hahahahaha hahahahaha hahahahaha

CEO of Yapping

crazy idea russia maybe stand up against these attacks? nato find a weak spot and they aren’t going to stop attacking.

russia can easily give some underwater drones to houthis… or work with iran to sent houthis some… guess what houthis would be happy to sink more ships. like russia can do so much… but they aren’t doing anything.

also, russia remember iran nuclear deal… peace deals means nothing to western countries.

– mass production of iran’s shahed-136 drone in russian factories under the name ‘geran’ has started (tatarstan, russia).

it is not ukraine that launch these attacks or plan these attacks at all. it is clear as sky when 3-4 nato reconnaissance & surveillance planes/drones fly over the black sea before and during each attack on russian navy.

ukraine doesn’t have the tech or the means to launch such attacks on russia navy.

yeah, at least once you are right. like i have said. the west went to war like in afghanistan. russia responded with molten copper, thermobaric bombs and hypersonic missiles. the west cannot win in old tactics. he individual soldier and the tanks are irrelevant; you can win the fight, but not the people. that’s why the usa lost in vietnam, somalia, afghanistan, etc. and now in ukraine

the ultra-conspiratorial part of my brain thinks that the freemasons in russia sacrifice vessels of the black sea fleet as a participation trophy to the freemasons in otan. they know that the fleet plays no real major role in ww3. their submarines however are responsible for the giant tsunami waves.
