Ahmed al-Jarba, head of the Saudi-backed Syria’s Tomorrow Movement, has been in Turkey for more than 4 weeks now to discuss the future of the the northern Syrian town of Tell Abyad, which is under control of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the Syrian Hammurabi’s Justice News blog revealed on September 23.
The pro-opposition blog, which is well-known for its close ties to the US-led coalition, also reported that the U.S. has made a request to use the border crossing in Tell Abyad to transport construction materials from Turkey to the city of Raqqa.
Turkey will not likely fulfill this demand without concessions from the U.S. One of Turkey’s options is to demand a joint administration over the town and the withdrawal of Kurdish fighters – a development similar to what took place in the city of Manbij in northern Aleppo.
Three days ago, the Kurdish Hawar News Agency (ANHA) reported that the Turkish Military deployed hundreds of armored vehicles, battle tanks and trucks on the border with Tell Abyad. This indicates that Turkey is indeed considering to pressure the SDF to give up the key border town.
