Russia Adopts New Passage Rules For Foreign Warships Moving Through Northern Sea Route

The Russian government has developed new rules of passage for foreign warships moving through the Northern Sea Route, Izvestia newspaper reported on March 6 citing an obtained document.

According to the document, foreign warships and ships will have to inform the Russian side about their plans to pass through the Northern Sea Route 45 days ahead and take aboard Russian marine pilots. At the same time, the Russian side can reject the passage request.

Experts quoted by Izvestia say that if some ships attempt to pass the Northern Sea Route without a Russian approval, they could be arrested and in the worst case scenario even destroyed.

Izvestia says that the new document was developed in response to “the increasing military activity of foreign states”.

In February, Adm. James Foggo, the commander of the U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa and Joint Forces Command Naples, called to limit Russian sovereignity and over its northern territories. His remarks were particularly aimed at the Northern Sea Route.

The Northern Sea Route is a shipping route officially defined by Russian legislation as lying east of Novaya Zemlya and specifically running along the Russian Arctic coast from the Kara Sea, along Siberia, to the Bering Strait. The entire route route lies within Russia’s exclusive economic zone.

“Experts quoted by Izvestia say that if some ships attempt to pass the Northern Sea Route without a Russian approval, they could be arrested and in the worst case scenario even destroyed”

Suck on that one Adm. James Foggo!

jako

“called to limit Russian sovereignity and over its northern territories”

And how exactly he plans to do that? By invading Russia?! By making gay parade on the North pole as sign of protest?

there has been talks about performing provocative actions by the USN. Nonetheless, Russia has already allocated large military resources to the arctic, and is restoring and improving the old Soviet infrastructure.

Any military ship trying something funny here will find themselves in dire situations

I know that Russia was going back to Arctic for quite some time already (unlike NATO countries who are only catching up) I know that they dominate NATO there and even much more U.S. US has only ONE half functioning icebreaker! That’s why I find this veiled threat puzzling… What that “provocative actions” might be in your opinion? NATO harassment of some outposts in the Arctic ? They’ll arrive with their nuke sub get to the surface and then show their naked buttocks to the Russians to show disdain maybe?!! I mean WTF is this man talking about?!

John Whitehot

“and then show their naked buttocks”

Yeah, you gotta be from the USN or the Royal Navy to drop your pants over a surfaced submarine sailing in arctic waters.

Even the Brits recently said they were going to ‘challenge’ Russia in the far north. Shoigu and Gerasimov are still laughing.

it’s well known that sailors have a proclivity for being gay – present in most navies, the english in particular and then the navy of moronistan (aka usa) goes without saying (almost).

Geography must not be the Admiral’s strong point. Seems he doesn’t understand just how close to Russian Territory the shipping lane is. Additional problem for the USA is they are going to have to start producing ice class warships with icebreaker bows. Much easier to to follow the RU doctrine.

jako

Oh yes he does “understand”…. He is just being arrogant bitch hoping that his attitude will intimidate Russia (which is laughable).. Shipping lane is (most of the time) going through Russian economic zone. So Admiral is just blabbing his big mouth because Russia is entitled to this measures by International Maritime Law (respected most of the time by all countries on the planet) Russian coastal Bal & Bastion defenses speak language that Admiral can understand (not to mention Russian air-force and their anti-ship missiles). So any NATO floating bucket he intends to send down that shipping lane will end up at the bottom of the sea.quickly.

Russia should be thankful to the Adm. James Foggo mouth, which revealed what is on the mind of Pentagon.

Any chance that the “rich” Western powers could open their own route through the Arctic, and supply similar numbers of ice-breakers to do so safely?

Why should Russia allow rich countries to take advantage of superior Russian routes, just to save the US from building ice-breakers, rather than destroyers that crash into oil-tankers.

When someone writes an piece of writing he/she maintains the image of a user in his/her mind that how a user can know it. Therefore that’s why this post is amazing. Thanks!
