On July 3rd, Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces Colonel General Sergei Surovikin outlined what needs to happen for Russia to be superior in the air to the US, in an interview with the Russian Ministry of Defense’s outlet Zvezda.
He spoke of the growing combat potential of the airborne forces, taking into account the arrival of new weapons, military and special equipment (including UAVs), the development of a missile attack warning system, improving the organization of combat and operational training and deployment of new formations, and improving the material and technical support of the Armed Forces.
August 1st, 2020 will mark the 5th year anniversary of the formation of the Russian Aerospace Forces from the Russian Air Force.
According to him, the composition of the armaments and military equipment of the Aerospace Forces has changed significantly over the past five years.
Since 2015, in accordance with the State Defense Order for the Aerospace Force, each year it received modern aircraft, such as the latest Su-30SM, Su-34, Su-35S aircraft and upgraded MiG-31BM aircraft, Ka-52, Mi-28N, Mi- combat helicopters 35M, Mi-8AMTSH and others. As a result, more than 20 aviation regiments were re-equipped with new equipment.
More than 550 units of new types of weapons were delivered, as well as 330 units of prototype weapons were provided for testing.
High-readiness radars of the missile attack warning system in the cities of Orsk, Barnaul, Yeniseysk, the optical complex of the space control system Pritsel, the special-purpose laser complex Peresvet, and the first Container-ZM over-the-horizon radar was commissioned.
As a result, the share of modern weapons of the aerospace forces currently exceeds 70%.
Trainings are also constantly on-going, and the training systems are also being improved, as a result of experience gained from various exercises such as Army Games and others.
Over the past five years, in connection with the deployment of modern types of weapons and military equipment to combat duty, the deployment of units in new areas of combat mission, the combat capabilities of forces on duty in the East Kazakhstan region have increased by an order of magnitude.
According to Colonel General Surovikin, at present, the state of material and technical support of the Aerospace Forces as a whole satisfies the needs the formations, military units and organizations during the conduct of daily activities.
Still, however, in 2020, it is planned to supply more than 250 units of various types of equipment (aerodrome-operational, electric and gas equipment and automotive vehicles of combined arms), more than 3,000 tons of material assets to the aerospace forces from the country’s military-industrial complex.
Currently, new types of aircraft developed by industrial enterprises, such as the Mi-28NM combat helicopter, the Mi-38T airborne transport helicopter and the fifth-generation Su-57 multi-role fighter, are undergoing state tests in the Aerospace Forces.
A new radiosystem “Niobium” is being developed for the radio engineering troops using a modern component base. The technical characteristics of the radar complex will exceed the capabilities of the Nebo-M radar complex in service in the detection range of various types of aircraft, including hypersonic ones.
Over the past six years, new runways have been built at 10 airfields, including two in the Arctic region.
To date, reconstruction work is being carried out at 25 airfields, two of which – Step and Voronezh – we plan to put into operation this year.
By 2023, it is planned to complete the reconstruction and development of infrastructure at five more airdromes (Plesetsk, Savasleika, Nagurskaya, Kyzyl and Burevestnik).
In terms of space launches, As part of the development work at the Plesetsk cosmodrome, flight tests of the Angara space rocket complex are underway, which include six launches of the Angara-A5 heavy-class launch vehicle and three launches of the Angara-1.2 light-class launch vehicle.
Currently, two qualification launches of these types of launch vehicles have been completed. Until the end of this year, the next qualification launch of the Angara-A5 heavy-class launch vehicle is planned, the preparation for which is currently being organized.
In new developments, the S-500 “Prometheus” anti-aircraft missile system is being developed by the Almaz-Antey Concern VKO Joint-Stock Company as a new generation of anti-aircraft missile systems, in which the principle of separately solving the tasks of destroying ballistic and aerodynamic targets will be applied.
He also said that as the COVID-19 pandemic is slowing down, and summer rolls around, the intensity of trainings will increase.
The list of priority tasks of combat training, first of all, includes purposeful training of command and control bodies, troops and forces, the training and material base for combat training for practical exercises of troops and forces during the strategic command-and-staff exercise “Caucasus 2020” and a series of exercises on plan commanders associations.
Secondly, the improvement of the single (individual) training of military personnel during joint combat training exercises of groupings of troops and forces, including the fulfillment of combat training tasks in various conditions.
Also among the priorities is the training of crews as part of a pair, unit (squad), squadron, aviation military unit, linked to ensuring the co-ordination of combined arms units, military units and formations.
The next priority is the preparation for the young flight crew of the test exercises in accordance with the combat training courses. The focus is also on the preparation and conduct of tactical exercises with live firing (flight tactical exercises with the use of aviation weapons) with formations and military units with the development of tactical missions by type of battle together with comprehensive support units.
In order to fulfill the priority tasks in the summer period of training in the Aerospace Forces, more than 200 exercises of various levels and more than 800 training events with various categories of military personnel were planned.
In order to create an atmosphere of competition among the airborne forces during the summer period of training, all-army and international stages of the Aviadarts 2020 flight training aerial training contest and the Falconry competition for unmanned aerial vehicle training will be held.

SU-57 Is pretty jet but i highly doubt Russia is able to mass produce it in time, they simply don’t have the capacity or production power the US has, this might change when the new engine is ready though i hope i’m wrong
Neither USA has enough capacity to produce F35. That’s why it is produced together by a number of NATO countries. USA and the West transferred most of its production power to China.

Russia doesn’t have trouble with funding or producing the Su-57, it’s undergoing its last phases of testing. Furthermore they already have air defense radars (tracking and target acquisition) and surface-to-air missile systems that can detect and destroy stealth aircraft, there’s no point in producing more than a few hundred Su-57s until 2040.

You said that USA has capacity and industrial power. I answered you that USA can’t produce F35 alone. Logically, that means the USA has not enough capacity neither industrial power if they need help from a dozen of other countries.

At the moment they currently have a larger capacity to produce more F-35s than Russia has to produce Su-57s, they have a greater manufacturing capacity than Russian Federation in general despite outsourcing most of their manufacturing to China.

Russia is unable to form meaningful partnerships with it’s erstwhile friends. Iran Venezuela Algeria Syria Kazakhstan South Africa Cuba Belarus India (especially) – all these are nations that they could have formed a broad based coalition with to manufacture advanced weapons like the su57 – spread out the cost and obtain economies of scale just as the west is doing with it’s stealth fighter, but russia is very short of strategic thinking

SCO and AIIB are meaningless in this context – what defense projects have they funded? They are just talking shops. Notice I left out China from my list of Russian friends – China is a fair weather friend to Russia with it’s own plan for global hegemony. Russia doesn’t need anybody to develop weapons. They make the best. Why are they meaningless…? They are the backbone to counter U.S. hegemony both militarily and financially. Most of the EU countries already joined AIIB. NATO countries and I.S. allies like Turkey, Greece, Saudis are buying Russian weapons. Another sign of the crumbling U.S. Empire.

Russia has more heavy-weight fighters than the USA, which has most of it’s air force made up of light-weight F-16’s.

Russia has air superiority. Most thd Russian airfleet is state if the art around 1800 jets. Plus a few thousend layered state of the art SAM launchers along with the best ground based Radar systems. Better luck next time…

Su-57 is better. By far. Tu-160 is superior to the B-2. Russian jets need less maintenance Turnaround time is much shorter.

Technically the air above us extends to space, its possible in future there will be craft that can go between Low Earth Orbit, the Karman Line and the current combat ceiling of conventional jets. When that happens Russia’s management system of putting ‘Space Forces’ under the Air Force will be a better one long term than the US method of creating an entirely new branch.
