Russian warplanes have carried out more than 550 airstrikes on ISIS’s areas of influence in Syria’s central region since the start of April, the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on the 30th of the month.

The airstrikes targeted the eastern Homs countryside, the eastern Hama countryside, the southern Raqqa countryside and the western countryside of Deir Ezzor.

According to the SOHR, the recent Russian airstrikes claimed the lives of 26 terrorists of ISIS and wounded at least 21 others.

Despite the intensive operations of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS), ISIS cells in central Syrian continue to launch attacks on Syria government forces.

The terrorists launched two large attacks in the eastern Homs countryside as well as along the administrative border between Raqqa and Deir Ezzor on April 27 and 28. The VKS responded to both attacks.

Syrian government forces and the VKS will likely step up their operations in the central region in the upcoming weeks to mount more pressure on ISIS. Very recently, the terrorist group kicked off a military campaign codenamed “The Battle of Revenge for the Killing of the Two Sheikhs” in the Levant and several other regions across the world to avenge its former leader and spokesman who died during a US raid in Syria’s northwestern region in February.
