The Russian military has dealt more blows to Ukrainian armed formations which recently infiltrated the region of Kursk in southwest Russia.

In its August 18 briefing, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that the Sever Group of Forces had located and eliminated multiple Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups in forest belts near the settlements of Alekseyevskoye, Safonovka and Sheptukhovka.

Several attacks by Ukraine’s 22nd, 61st, and 115th mechanized brigades as well as the 82nd Air Assault Brigade were also repelled near the settlements of Komarovka, Olgovka, Russkoye and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye, according to the ministry, which noted that the Ukrainian losses amounted to one tank, five armored fighting vehicles, one engineering vehicle and more than 30 troops.

The ministry also said that air and artillery strikes hit Ukrainian gatherings close to the settlements of Borki, Fanaseyevka, Cherkasskaya Konopelka, Novoivanovka, Mikhailovka, Snagost and to the south of Kurilovka.

It added that an American-made M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) of Kiev forces was destroyed by a missile strike near the settlement of Bezdrik in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which neighbors Kursk.

Other strikes on Sumy hit Ukrainian reserves, ammunition and fuel depots of the 22nd Mechanised Brigade, 80th Air Assault Brigade, 103rd, and 107th territorial defense brigades near the settlements of Atinskoye, Belopolye, Vorozhba, Kiyanitsa, Kositsa and Shalgino, according to the ministry.

“Over the past 24 hours, the AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses have amounted to more than 300 Ukrainian troops and 27 units of hardware, including six tanks, one infantry fighting vehicle, two armored personnel carriers, 18 armored fighting vehicles, four motor vehicles, one MLRS launcher, and two units of engineering vehicles, including one obstacle-clearing vehicle,” the ministry said.

“Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses have amounted to 3,460 Ukrainian troops, 50 tanks, 25 infantry fighting vehicles, 45 armored personnel carriers, 262 armored fighting vehicles, 115 motor vehicles, five SAM [surface-to-air missile] launchers, seven MLRS launchers, including three HIMARS and one M270 MLRS, 25 field artillery guns, four electronic warfare stations, four units of engineering vehicles, including one obstacle-clearing vehicle and one UR-77 mine-clearing vehicle,” it concluded.

In addition, the ministry released videos showing recent artillery strikes on Ukrainian gatherings and an attack with a Lancet loitering munition against an armored personnel carrier in Kursk.

Kiev forces launched their surprise attack in Kursk on August 6, relying mainly on foreign mercenaries and Western-made weapons.

The Ukrainian attack claimed the lives of 12 Russian civilians and left more than 120 others wounded. The fate of an additional 2,000 remains unknown. The attack also displaced more than 120,000 civilians in Kursk alone.

The Russian military halted the advance of Kiev forces in the very first days of the attack and is now working to eliminate the infiltrators.
