Grinding down Ukrainian reserves in their last strongholds in the Kursk region, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation do not stop offensive operations on the Donbass frontlines. On March 9th, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation officially confirmed its full control of the town of Constantinople in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
In the Southern Donetsk direction, the assault units of the Russian Vostok group of forces, supported by massive drone strikes and artillery fire, destroyed Ukrainian positions and secured their full control of the town of Constantinople located on the way from Kurakhovo to the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Ukrainian propaganda attempts to deny Russian victory, but Russian flags waving all around the town confirm that the Ukrainian garrison was destroyed and Ukrainian forces were repelled away from the town as well as its outskirts.
The town of Constantinople was turned into the main Ukrainian stronghold after retreat of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Kurskhovo. Located on the bank of the local Volchya River, the town served as a strategically important logistics hub of the Ukrainian military in the Southern Donetsk direction, because there was a bridge and communication with Ukrainian forces deployed in the village of Andreevka located on the northern bank.
The Russian army first entered Constantinople from the southern and southeastern directions. Battles were ongoing in the center of the town, when Russian forces took control of Andreevka on March 4th. Ukrainian defense was doomed. The mop up operations in Constantinople ended in less than a week.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine retreated to the village of Bogatyr located to the west, but battles are already ongoing in Alekseevka and Rozliv around it.
