Russian Interior Ministry Official Arrested For Being Alleged Ukrainian Spy

On June 22nd, the Russian security service – FSB reported the detention of the head of the police department of one of the districts of the Kursk region on suspicion of treason.

The FSB’s PR office specified that it was a lieutenant colonel Dmitry Alexandrovich Borzenkov born in 1981.

In one of the most uninteresting developments, he is accused of being a spy of Ukraine.

According to counterintelligence, he was attracted to “confidential cooperation” by one of the units of the Security Service of Ukraine, the policeman “collected and transmitted information constituting a state secret.”

He may be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for treason.

According to data from open sources, Dmitry Borzenkov is the acting head of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Zolotukhinsky district of the Kursk region.

“According to the results of the investigation, he will be dismissed for committing an offense defaming the honor of an employee of the internal affairs bodies. The specified individualwill also be held liable according to the law,” the FSB added.

In May, Ukraine accused the chief of the operations department of the 74th intelligence center of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces of inciting an official from the Ukrainian government to commit treason.

According to the investigation, in 2017, a Russian citizen was invited to cooperate with a citizen of Ukraine, who at that time held the post of deputy head of the protocol of the Prime Minister of Ukraine in order to receive information from him, the disclosure of which could harm the sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine.

It is noted that the official was found guilty of treason by cooperating with the Russian special services, received a prison term. In September 2019, as part of the exchange, he was transferred to Russia.

The press service of the office of the prosecutor general said that the pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
