Russia’s advanced Lancet loitering munitions continue to inflict human and material heavy losses on Kiev forces across the battlefield.
On October 13 and 14, Russian sources released footage dementing seven recent strikes with Lancet loitering munitions on different fronts. The strikes destroyed two Soviet-made T-72 battle tanks, two U.S.-made M109 155 self-propelled howitzers, a U.S.-made Humvee armored vehicle, an SUV of Ukrainian special forces and a Soviet-made Buk-M1 air-defense system.
The Lancet, which was developed by the ZALA Aero Group, is equipped with an elector-optical system that allows it to detect, track and lock on static and moving targets.
An improves version of the Lancet-3, that features a more aerodynamic design with extended X-shaped wings, was apparently used in the strikes. This version has a longer range and endurance than the original Lancet-3, which has a range of 40 kilometers and an endurance of up to 40 minutes only.
The Russian military has been using Lancet loitering munitions against Kiev forces since the beginning of its special operation in Ukraine.
In the last few weeks, the Russian military expanded the use of loitering munitions and introduced new types, like the Geranium-1 and 2 which are thought to be copies of Iran’s Shahed-131 and 136. As a result, Kiev forces sustained heavy human and material losses.
