The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed on September 12 that the Sever Group of Forces had liberated ten settlements from Kiev forces in the Kursk direction.
In its daily briefing, the ministry named the liberated settlements as Apanasovka, Byakhovo, Vishnyovka, Viktorovka, Vnezapnoye, Gordeyevka, Krasnooktybrskoye, Obukhovo, Snagost and Desyaty Oktyabr.
The Sever Group of Forces also repelled two counter-attacks by Kiev forces close to the settlements of Fanaseyevka, Snagost and Olgovka, according to the ministry, which said that 20 Ukrainian troops were killed or wounded, another surrendered and two motor and armored fighting vehicles were destroyed.
In addition, the ministry said that Ukrainian attempts to break through the Russian border close to the settlements of Novy Put and Medvezhye were foiled.
Some 55 Ukrainian troops were killed or wounded during these failed break through attempts, the ministry added, noting that four tanks, three armored personnel carriers, eight armored fighting vehicles, and two counter-obstacle vehicles were destroyed.
The ministry also announced that Russian air and artillery strikes hit Ukraine’s 22nd, 41st, 61st, 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 1st National Guard Brigade and 129th Territorial Defence Brigade near the settlements of Borki, Guyevo, Daryino, Zeleny Shlyakh, Kositsa, Lyubimovka, Malaya Loknya, Melovy, Martynovka, Novaya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, Orlovka and Uspenovka.
Additional strikes targeted, according to the ministry, the reserves of the 21st, 22nd, 41st mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 82nd Air Assault Brigade, 1st National Guard Brigade, 101st, 103rd, 106th, 116th, 119th and 129th territorial defense brigades close to the settlements of Belopolye, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Glukhov, Dolzhik, Zhuravka, Obody, Kondratovka, Semyonovka, Stepanovka, Sumy, Svessa, Pavlovka, Pustogorod, Radyanskoye and Yampol in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk.
“The AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to more than 300 troops and 24 units of hardware, including five tanks, six armored personnel carriers, 13 armored fighting vehicles, as well as two artillery guns, nine motor vehicles, two counter-obstacle vehicles, and two electronic warfare stations,” the ministry said.
Russian media released videos showing several recent strikes and ground operations against Kiev forces in the Kursk direction.
Kiev forces launched a surprise attack from Sumy into Kursk in August with support from their backers in NATO. The Russian military attack began earlier this week and has already made major progress.
According to the Russian MoD, since the start of the battle in Kursk Kiev forces have lost 12,500 troops, 101 tanks, 42 infantry fighting vehicles, 83 armored personnel carriers, 669 armored fighting vehicles, 401 motor vehicles, 92 artillery guns, 26 launchers, including seven American-made HIMARS and five MLRS systems, eight air defense systems, two transport-loading vehicles, 22 electronic warfare stations, seven counter-battery radars, two aerial radars, ten engineering vehicles, including four counter obstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle.
