Warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces struck four militant hideouts in hard-to-reach mountainous areas of Syria, deputy chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria announced on June 14.

“In the past day, the Russian Aerospace Forces delivered strikes on four hideouts, used by militants who left the al-Tanf zone and took refuge in hard-to-access areas of the al-Amor mountain ridge in the Homs Governorate,” Major General Yury Popov said in a briefing.

Video footage showing what appears to be the strikes announced by the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria surfaced online on June 13.

Around 200 U.S. troops are usually deployed at garrison in al-Tanf, along with hundreds of militants from a proxy group known as the Syrian Free Army. The U.S. maintains a 55-kilometer no-fly zone around al-Tanf. However, VKS warplanes fly over the garrison on a regular basis.

Attacks on government forces in Homs and other parts of Syria’s central region increased in recent months. Most of the attacks were blamed on ISIS, which rarely claims responsibility.

Four pro-government fighters were reportedly killed by suspected militants of ISIS near the town of al-Bukamal in the southern Deir Ezzor countryside on June 14, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a London-based pro-opposition monitoring group.

The U.S. claims that it is present in al-Tanf to counter ISIS. Nevertheless, the real purpose of the garrison is to block the strategic Damascus-Baghdad highway. In addition, the garrison is reportedly being used as an outpost to collect intelligence and facilitate Israeli attacks against Syria.

Syrian and Russian officials accused U.S. forces in al-Tanf of training and arming terrorists, including members of ISIS, more than once in the past.

Syrian government forces launched several combing operations in the central region in recent years. Still, the situation there will not likely improve as long as U.S. forces are present in al-Tanf and the country’s northeastern region.

just let the russian version of the reaper drone circle around the clock in these desert areas. send hellfire to these demons or it will never stop. and the axis of resistance should also liberate the syrian oilfields.
