On November 26, Radio Fresh released a photo showing a Russian Su-34 warplane dropping what appears to be a satellite-guided KAB-500S-E bomb on a terrorist position in southern Idlib.
The pinpoint Russian airstrike targeted the northern outskirt of the town of Hizareen, which is a stronghold of al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
Developed by JSC Tactical Missiles Corporation (KTRV), the KAB-500S-E is guided by an inertial navigation system (INS) aided by a Kompas PSN-2001 satellite receiver that can use 24 Glonass and GPS channels. The bomb’s circular error probable (CEP) is 7 to 12 meters only.
The Kab-500S-E was designed to destroy targets in harbors, industrial facilities and depots. The bomb’s 195 kg warhead uses an impact fuse with three programmable modes.
Last week, a Russian Su-34 was spotted targeting a terrorist position in southern Idlib with a laser-guided KAB–1500LG bomb.
Such precision-guided munitions help minimizing the risk to civilians in the battlefield, especially in areas like Idlib, where terrorist groups are actively storing ammo and weapons in urban areas.
