On March 23, a man was killed and at least six other people were wounded in a rocket attack that targeted the Turkish-occupied town of Azaz in the northern countryside of Syria’s Aleppo.
A salvo of at least ten rockets hit several residential districts in the town’s center, where Turkish-backed militants maintain several positions.

Syrian opposition activists claimed that that the rockets were launched from a strip of land to the south of Azaz held by Kurdish forces, namely the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). However, this is yet to be verified.
A few hours prior to the rocket attack, Turkish forces shelled positions of the SDF and the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) near the town of Ibbin in the northern Aleppo countryside. At least two service members of the SAA were wounded as a result of the shelling.
The rocket attack on Azaz was not the first of its kind. On February 15, a similar attack targeted the Turkish-occupied town. Back then, three people were killed and seven others were wounded. Some of the casualties were reportedly Turkish-backed militants.
Turkish forces and the SDF have been exchanging attacks in northern and northeastern Syria for well over a month now. The situation in these regions could soon slip out of control. A limited military confrontation between the two sides seems possible.
