Early on October 5, the Russian military repelled yet another Ukrainian attack with suicide drones on the Belgorod region.
At least five suicide drones were shot down by Russian air defenses over Belgorod, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
“The Kiev government’s attempt to stage yet another terrorist attack on facilities in Russia was thwarted. Air defense units on duty shot down five Ukrainian drones above the Belgorod Region,” the ministry said in a statement.
In turn, the region’s Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that six drones had been shot down over the region and its eponymous administrative center.
“Our missile defenses have shot down six drones above Belgorod and the Belgorod Region. According to preliminary information, there have been no casualties,” the governor said in a post on the Telegram messaging application.
Later in the early hours of October 6, Governor of the Crimean port city of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, said on Telegram that an attack with two suicide boat drones was being repelled.
“The loud noise in the Northern Breakwater area is from the Black Sea Fleet’s underwater anti-sabotage detachment. According to preliminary information, they are repelling an attack by two drone boats,” he said.
The governor did not report any casualties or material losses. The Russian MoD has not yet commented on the attack attempt.
Following the attacks on Belgorod and Crimea, several explosions were reported in the Ukrainian region of Odessa. Ukrainian media said that Russian suicide drones hit the Port of Izmail and the Orlivka-Isaccea ferry crossing. Videos and photos that surfaced online showed heavy damage there.

Several explosions rocked the Ukrainian city of Kharkov. An air raid warning was issued before the explosions. Ukrainian media later said that the center of the city was struck by two ballistic missiles. However, these claims are yet to be confirmed.
Ukraine stepped up attacks on Russian territory in recent weeks to save face after the failure of its counteroffensive. Kiev forces launched the counteroffensive more than four months ago and despite sustaining heavy losses they are yet to break through Russian defenses in any direction.
