On September 29, the Ministry of Transport of Syria revealed in an official statement that the strategic Nasib crossing on the Syrian-Jordanian border will be reopened on October 10. According to the ministry, the crossing has been fully restored and it is ready to operate again.

The Jordanian government has not commented on this development yet. However, few days ago a Jordanian source told the al-Ghad newspaper that Jordan and Syria will reopen the Nasib border crossing in the first half of October.

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) liberated the Nasib crossing on July 7 without clashes thanks to an agreement with local Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters. The crossing has been closed since April of 2015, when the al-Qaeda branch in Syria, the al-Nusra Front and the US-backed FSA captured it.

The reopening of the crossing will not only improve the economy of war torn Syria but also Jordan that has been facing extreme economic difficulties lately. The crossing will also facilitate the return of more than 500,000 Syrian refugee, who are currently stationed in camps in northern Jordan.
