The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) elite 4th Division is redeploying units from northern Lattakia to the countryside of Aleppo amid reports of a large-scale military operation in the region.
Pro-government activists released on January 1 and 2 photos showing troops, logistic supplies and heavy weapons of the 4th Division on the way to Aleppo.

The 4th Division was sent to northern Lattakia last year with the aim of securing key hilltops there. However, after many attacks on the mountainous region, the unit, which is specialized to urban warfare, failed to accomplish its mission.
Last month, a Syrian military source told the Beirut-based 180o Post that the SAA is preparing to launch a large-scale military operation in the western Aleppo countryside. According to the source, the attack in the region will complement the ongoing operation in southeast Idlib, which is aimed at reopening the M5 highway.
Several terrorist groups, including al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), are present in western Aleppo. The Turkish military also maintains three observation posts in the region.
The redeployment of the 4th Division to Aleppo confirms that the army is preparing to launch a military operation there. However, it is still unclear when such an operation would begin.

Isn’t the 4th Division made up of the same guys who have failed attack after attack on Kabani? I assume they will be used as meat shields in the offensive.

You know the old saying , try, try again until you succeed and now they have had some practice I am sure this time they will succeed. The only offense meat in this instance will be the dead rotting terrorists as the 4th Div sweep them away.
You don’t know anything about the 4th because, they just sent you here to be annoying. Read up on the 4th and learn something.
The 4th division are Assad’s personal troops, very well trained and equipped, and on top of that they’re his most loyal troops, just what Assad needs when your boss Erdogan starts using his military to support his terrorist proxies in Aleppo, there are no FSA conscripts in the 4th division. And yes you’re right, they couldn’t do jack squat in Latakia and Hama, unfortunately not a very wise decision on Assad’s part to try to tackle that over sized nest of mad terrorists, that area and the nearby areas of Idlib should be left for the very last assault, and it looks like Assad’s now decided to do just that. :] The SAA are coming Mustafa, so if you live anywhere near the border get away from it now, move as far into Turkey as you can, and hopefully you’ll avoid any of those 4th division shells that might just accidentally fall on the Turkish side of the border, save your family and your life, flee now Mustafa, before it’s too late.
