The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has deployed heavy weapons in the vicinity of the town of Manbij in the northern Aleppo countryside.
On December 25, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights released a video showing howitzers and multiple rocket launchers of the army deployed in fortified positions in Manbij. The London-based monitoring group said the SAA is also building new fortifications.
A second video released by the SHOR shows a large base of the Russian Military Police also located in the vicinity of Manbij city. No unusual activities were spotted there.
Manbij city, which is located along the frontline with Turkish-occupied areas in northern Aleppo, is under control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
In 2018, several units of the SAA and the Russian Military Police were deployed in the vicinity of the city to deter Turkish forces, which were preparing to launch a large-scale attack on it.
The SDF local branch, the Manbij Military Council, enjoys excellent relations with the SAA. In the past two years, the two forces fought alongside each other on several occasions, repelling a number of small attacks and foiling many infiltrations by Turkish-backed militants.
The deployment of heavy weapons around Manbij may be a sign of a nearing Turkish attack on the city. Earlier this month, Turkish forces carried out a failed attack on SDF positions in the town of Ain Issa in the northern Raqqa countryside. Manbij could be their next target.
Slowly and surely SAA is extending its presence in the Kurdish areas.

What’s going on in SF, I keep saying they hide the truth and lie all the time but for the last 2 weeks they’ve proven me wrong, lately all they seem to do is tell the truth, and don’t I love it.
“The SDF local branch, the Manbij Military Council, enjoys excellent relations with the SAA. In the past two years, the two forces fought alongside each other on several occasions, repelling a number of small attacks and foiling many infiltrations by Turkish-backed militants.”
So the SDF Kurds are good allies to the SAA hey, that’ll make the Kurd hating commenters hold their tongues won’t it, maybe they should listen to what Assad has to say about the Kurds instead of believing the propaganda they usually read. Assad calls the Kurds loyal friends and true Syrians whenever he talks about them, and his only criticism is [only ever] of the leadership of the SDC/SDF, which consists of Kurds, Arabs, Turkmen, Syriac’s and other groups as well, but the Kurdish people he calls true loyal Syrians, and this SF articles goes some way to prove that’s the case.
Now for the important part of the story. Assad must’ve missed the E-mail Putin sent him, he was supposed to let the Russians use the Turks to blackmail the Kurds into submission, and then get them to hand over the towns to avoid Turkish assaults, or that was the plan according to SF. But that’s not what’s happening is it, no no no, Assad has his own way of doing things, and luckily for the Kurds blackmailing them with Turkish aggression isn’t one of them, and that’s because Assad knows the best way to win the Kurds loyalty is with loyalty to them, he’s such a smart man. This really throws a spanner in Putin’s plans, whatever he thought he’d gotten out of Erdogan for this deal won’t be on offer anymore, Erdogan will be fuming with this new development Now finally the Kurds have some heavy weapons to back them up, since they had to remove them from the area according to the Russian/Turkish MOU they’ve been underequipped and unable to repel the Turks attacks, but the SAA are allowed to have heavy weapons here :], and now they’ll use them to repel the Turkish assaults that Russia allows and uses as a tool for blackmail, that’s if the Turks dare attack Manbij. Putin’s about as loyal as a transsexual prostitutes in Bali and the Kurds know it, in contrast Assad’s just about as loyal a person as you can find anywhere, he’s loyal to the Russians despite the fact they crap on him all the time, he’s also loyal to the Iranians despite the fact they crap on him all the time too, and he also tries very hard to be loyal to the Syrian people too, though lately due to issues beyond his control that’s become a lot more difficult. But the Kurds can certainly tell the difference between the Putin way of doing things and Assad’s way of doing things, and this article describes the difference, the Russians just stand back and watch, and the SAA cavalry rushes in to help, that’s the difference. And don’t misinterpret what I’m saying, the Russians won’t want the SAA rushing in like this, it’s not something they will have agreed to, this is just Assad taking control of his own destiny, otherwise the story would read, SAA troops replacing SDF troops, not SAA troops reinforcing SDF with heavy weapons. :] Now send some more SAA and heavy weapons to Ain Issa and Tall Tamir as well.
