AlMasdarNews reports: The Syrian Arab Army’s 60th Brigade of the 11th Tank Division, backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF), launched a counter-assault against the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) on Friday night after losing three checkpoints to the aforementioned terrorist group near the Palmyra Grain Silos.
A security source told Al-Masdar News on Friday night that the Syrian Armed Forces were able to recover all three checkpoints to the east of the Palmyra Grain Silos after repelling the Islamic State’s attempt to reach the outskirts of this historical city.
The source added that a large number of Islamic State terrorists were killed during the battle, including a significant number of foreign combatants from all over the Middle East and North Africa.
In addition to the recovering all lost points near the Palmyra Grain Silos, the Syrian Armed Forces liberated several sites near the Talilah Crossroad earlier this week, resulting in the Islamic State’s withdrawal to the T-3 Military Airport.
The Palmyra front still remains widely contested, despite the Syrian Arab Army’s liberation of the ancient city in late March 2016.
