On October 1, the 800th Commandos Battalion of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) Republican Guard repelled an ISIS attack east and north of al-Sukhnah town in the eastern Homs countryside and recaptured all lost positions in the area, according to pro-government sources.

However, ISIS fighters recaptured both al-Shula and Bir Ghabaghib villages on the al-Sukhnah-Deir Ezzor highway.

Pro-government sources also denied all reports that claimed that the T-4 airbase is under the ISIS fighters siege. The explained explosions sounds that were heard around the airbase with SAA artillery strikes that were targeting positions of ISIS east of Jubb al-Jarrah town.

Meanwhile, the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq announced that ISIS fighters shelled with mortars and Katyusha rockets the headquarters of the SAA and Russian Army in Mazlum village on the eastern bank of the Euphrates river.

Amaq also claimed that ISIS fighters destroyed a tank of the SAA with an ATGM east of al-Sukhnah town.

Earlier on October 1, the SAA and its allies launched a push towards the ISIS-held town of Mayadin in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside. This move by the SAA will likely have a bad impact on the ongoing ISIS attack in eastern Homs.

zio satanic terrorists are holding on to their shrinking foothold miserably … defeat for them is at the doorstep

Kell

Desperate moves by IS, they need to take T2 while the prior defenders are being mown down in the desert.

dutchnational

Those desparate moves by IS, might be correct, are successfull beyond measure and must have made SAA command desperate too.

The statements of SAA are more and more visible untrue, as in lying, and give the impression of a command out of control.

Maybe SAA command should be handed over to Russian staff. They are present now, I am sure, but they have to take over formal command.

Barba_Papa

Of course they are desperate. And of course the SAA got caught with its pants down. Any fool can look at a map and see that a large frontline along a highway through a desert equals vulnerability.

Successful beyond measure? Well, it’s a local counterattack, hardly the turning point in the war. It also spells opportunity. Just like the Ma’adin counterattack, which was also successful and caused you to pour scorn and derision on the SAA, ultimately left ISIS wide open on other fronts, causing the SAA to take Central Syria and relief Deir Ezzor. So as long as the SAA manages to hold Sukhnah and let ISIS waste its best forces there it can advance elsewhere. Like down the Euphrates towards Mayadin and Bukamal.

FlorianGeyer

There is an argument that the large ISIS salient into the Syrian desert was intentionally left as a magnet to draw ISIS forces from rural areas along the Euphrates that are easier to defend. Russian air power appears to be destroying ISIS in a terrain where no civilian casualties are at risk. This salient has now become a killing ground to defeat another large ISIS force.

Gary Sellars

100% correct. Any clown would look at the pre-ISIS offensive map and see that the SAA had made little to no effort to secure Palmyra-DeZ highway on the southern side.

They INVITED an IS counterattack in order to draw out IS reserves. The goat fuckers needed to transfer forces from Western Iraq to launch this (failed) counterattack, which proves their desperation. Now the SAA can strike back and wipe out the best that IS still have, and continue the push to Mayadin.

FlorianGeyer

One day we may find out if this was indeed the strategy :) I have considered for about 3 months for the desert of this part of Syria to be an ideal ‘kill zone’ to tempt ISIS and its Western advisers into.

I am sure that Dutchnational and Solomon will have a differing opinion :)

Gary Sellars

Our closeted terror supporters will do and say everything possible to deny reality and present this as a Syrian and Russian “epic fail” but a desert full of dead jihadists will prove them wrong

FlorianGeyer

And without civilian casualties.

Tomáš Bouzek

Great job. Btcher those American and Saudi Arabia scumbags.

As you may know southfront’s youtube channel is at a steady decline, today is the first day I have ever seen southfront LOSE subscribers. This is a pretty big deal as it seems that at this rate, the channel may not be able to reach more than ~120k subscribers… I think the media is trying to slowly censor southfronts channel, marked the actions against its channel by youtube. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/16bc80150ecea523396c3b06b7190a6a0aa9d627412fae6ee57c49b17cce0a3d.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/48392c002a208a2d66244b6486e36579fbdd5edef9e8c5c386605ffa72870239.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4195f9ca48b43ed97d9a9fafa702d4b6441dae7537be73ccd18ff3c0c177644e.jpg

of course, here came lot of haters and poisoned the discussion. the people leave SF. normal people have no interest to read RicharD or Jens.

What happen to Al Masdar? They have not updating news since Friday

FlorianGeyer

I guess it is due to another attack on their servers. The last attack took a few days to repair.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Heavy duty maintenance they are down to clean their servers and it doesn’t help with all this cyber warfare being stepped up by Marky Mark and the FaceBook Bunch.

I am having serious doubts about the veracity of SAA media.

As fas as I know there is fighting at or near T4, but maybe SAA is firing in the air as they are so happy not to be attacked anymore?

Qaraytan still under IS?

DeZ highway open?

The conclusion that an SAA advance on Mayadin wil have any impact on IS attacks in Homs seems totally prepostorous to me. One could even think the opposite. All these attacks, too much of them at least partially successfull, are distracting SAA, which seems all too eager to be distracted by other fronts elsewhere.

They lack enough crack units – a conclusion of SF earlier – and have tp concentrate, prioritise.

It seems to me SAA is not doing that and now runs the risk of not winning the war completely, which is losing in a way,

Jesus

“””I am having serious doubts about the veracity of SAA media”””.

We are having serious doubts about the veracity of your statements, magnifying some limited counterattacks by ISIS as a defeat of the SAA and Russians.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Don’t worry you fell for their Cyber war and it’s easy to be mislead when they take control of accounts and send out their own data. Welcome the new age of warfare !

hvaiallverden

Yup, its an multi front war zone, children, but the overall strategy as far I can judge, is to keep SAA and the Russians bizzy by engaging all over the place so the uISISa and ISISraeli mercs can take the eastern part, and that is the main goal, the war is lost from what I regard was initially the ISIS against Syrians, but the theater have changed to be about Kurdistan.

I dont believe an word cumming from whom ever the Yankikes puts in front of the screen, not an single word, whatever they drool about Kurds is bullshit, the plan have been there for decades, to balkanize Syria/Iraq/Turkien/Iran, and that is what this latest ugh…… efforts are, nothing else. And so far its nothing I would not be to worried, the SAA is just cleaning the land of scums, it takes time, and I hope the Iraqis witch is doing their part on the other side of the border will be of much help when that region is cleaned up.

Sp again, overall, its going in the right direction, right now, everything depends on two things, the will of the bonkers lying scumbag Trump and Co, and the Russians whom I still think is way to kind with the Yankikes, and the pussy footing will only delay the end of this war, but again, that is also just an matter of time, before the front line is clear and the region have just one enemy, the Kurds, whom as far I can judge, is chopping of their limbs at an breath taking speed, an grave mistake Kurds, you will bleed, again, because of some few peoples wet dreams, and again, the enemy within. You have always have and had my sympathy, that is now dwindling rapidly, to my great sorrow.

peace

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

These guys firing the Mortar are almost firing near max distance there and it shows they are pulling back and not advancing.

Graeme Rymill

Typical Field Marshal Terra Cotta Woolpuller logic…. All that firing at maximum distance shows is that the people firing are firing at maximum distance! They may be pulling back. They may be intending to advance because their targets are pulling back. Or they may be simply staying in place for a while.

We have no way of knowing just from these photos and neither does the Field Marshall.
