On May 27, units from the Syrian Arab Army and the Russian Military Police conducted a joint patrol along the frontline with Turkish forces in Syria’s northeastern region.
The patrol, which was escorted by officials from the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), inspected the frontline from the border town of al-Darbasiyah all the way to the town of Abu Rasin in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah.
According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the patrol was escorted by warplanes from the Russian Aerospace Forces.
Early on in the morning, Russian warplanes carried out a series of mock airstrikes with flash bombs over Turkish-occupied areas in the northern al-Hasakah countryside and the northern countryside of Raqqa. Similar mock airstrikes took place between May 25 and 26.
The joint patrol and the mock airstrikes were likely meant as a warning to the Turkish military and its proxies, who are reportedly preparing to launch a large-scale operation against the SDF in northern and northeastern Syria.
In the last few days, the Turkish military deployed large reinforcements in areas occupied by its forces and proxies in the northern and northeastern Aleppo countryside, the northern Raqqa countryside and the northern countryside of al-Hasakah.
Any Turkish military operation in northern and northeastern Syria will be a blatant violation of several de-escalation agreements not only with Russia, but also with the US.
A new Turkish operation will likely displace thousands of civilians and worsen the already critical humanitarian situation in the northern and northeastern regions. Despite, this Ankara appears to be determined to go on with its plans.
Turkish terrorist dogs… no worse then American or Israeli terrorists.
