On February 23, two service members of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) were wounded in the northern countryside of Aleppo as a result of a Turkish drone strike.
The strike targeted a joint post of the SAA and the Manbij Military Council (MMC), a key faction of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The post in question is located in the outskirts of the village of al-Jat to the northeast of the town of Manbij.
Syrian opposition sources claimed that four fighters of the MMC were also killed in the strike. However, this is yet to be confirmed.
The SAA maintains a network of positions around SDF-held Manbij to keep the Turkish military and its proxies away from the town. The Russian Military Police is also present in the area.
A day earlier, a Turkish combat drone struck positions of MMC near the villages of Mahsanli and Arab to the north of Manbij. However, no casualties were reported.
Turkish forces and the SDF has been exchanging blows in northern and northeastern Syria for around a month now. A military confrontation between the two sides may breakout soon. Last year, several reports talked about Turkish preparations for a new large-scale operation in Syria.
