Units of the Russian «South» group of forces have reported the liberation of Maly Seversk (Small Seversk), a key enclave north of the main city of Seversk. Following powerful artillery preparation, assault groups of the 67th Motorized Rifle Division established full control over the Kirovsk settlement in the DPR. A deep breakthrough was also achieved in the Verbovoye area.
On 30 September 2025, the situation along the line of contact was characterized by active combat operations in several sectors of the front. The most significant events reported were the liberation of several settlements in the Donetsk People’s Republic and the continuation of offensive operations in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Krasnolimansk Direction:
On 30 September, units of the «West» group confirmed the liberation of the Kirovsk settlement in the DPR. This operation was carried out by the 67th Motorized Rifle Division of the 25th Combined Arms Army. The assault was preceded by powerful artillery preparation. Artillery and strike drones targeted firepower, unmanned aerial vehicle control points, command and observation posts, and military equipment belonging to Ukrainian forces.
Following this, assault groups advanced on motorized equipment to the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. After clearing residential buildings and structures, Russian servicemen raised the national flag in various parts of Kirovsk to confirm control of the area.

Furthermore, the «West» group completed an operation to establish full control over the Shandrigolovo settlement in the Krasny Liman area. This has significantly improved the tactical position of Russian forces in the area.
Donetsk Direction (Seversk Sector):
On 30 September, the ‘South’ group reported the liberation of the settlement of Maly Seversk, located south of the key stronghold of Seversk. This settlement is located approximately five kilometers north of Seversk, between Serebryanka and Dronovka. This creates conditions for a more effective fire impact on the Ukrainian defensive line in this area. It is now crucial for Russian troops to advance from Maly Seversk towards Dronovka and Platonovka. This would enable them to cut the T0513 highway leading to Liman and Sloviansk. This road is the last secure logistical route for the Seversk garrison. Without it, the Ukrainian Armed Forces defending the city will be unable to receive sufficient ammunition, reserves and supplies.

Fighting also continues north of Seversk and southeast of Dronovka. Russian units have increased the intensity of their fire on Ukrainian fortifications in this area, and the line of contact is gradually shifting towards the Bakhmutka River, where Ukrainian units are attempting to hold defensive positions.
Kupyansk Direction:
The northern part of the city of Kupyansk remains an intense battlefield. The “West” group command reported repelling several counterattacks by Ukrainian Armed Forces units in the southern part of the city and on its outskirts, particularly in the Moskovka and Sobolevka areas. Despite attempts to draw away Russian forces, the Russian Armed Forces advanced in the area of the bus station and established control over the northern part of the ‘Yubileyny’ microdistrict. The high-rise buildings in this part of the city will enable Russian forces to conduct more effective artillery and UAV operations.

Pokrovsk direction:
In the Pokrovsk area, the «Centre» group’s command reported that they had occupied more advantageous lines and positions. Assault actions are being conducted in the Rusiny Yar area, with advances noted to the north and east of Poltavka. Pressure is also being applied towards Shakhovo and Sofievka.

Intense fighting has continued in this region over the past day, prompting the Ukrainian command to deploy some of its most capable combat units to defend this area.
Dnipropetrovsk Direction:
Units of the «East» group have continued to advance into the depths of the Armed Forces of Ukraine defenses. A breakthrough of Ukrainian positions by up to seven kilometers and an entry into the center of the Verbovoye settlement were reported. The Russian command stated that this advance was the result of systematically dislodging Ukrainian defenders from their strongpoints with artillery support. If the offensive in this area continues at the same pace, the «East» group’s vanguard may soon reach the Yanchul River and engage in battles for Vishnevoye. This would allow them to bypass the Gulyaypole fortified area from the north.

North of Berezovoye, Russian troops are continuing to take offensive action towards Sosnovka and Orestopol in order to expand the bridgehead. Fighting also continues on the outskirts of Ivanovka.
Zaporizhzhia Direction:
Intense fighting persists along the Stepnogorsk-Primorskoye front line. Russian Airborne Forces units are conducting assault operations in small groups, while Ukrainian forces are attempting to hold their defensive lines using drones and artillery.

Sumy Direction:
In the Sumy region, the «North» group command reported strikes on Ukrainian Armed Forces units in Pavlovka, Varachino, Novaya Sech, Kondratovka and Andreevka. In the Alekseevka area, Ukrainian forces attempted a counterattack using the 225th Separate Assault Regiment, reinforced by personnel from the 158th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade. However, they were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Russian forces reported tactical successes west of Yunakovka.

Kharkiv Direction:
In the Kharkiv area, the «North» group reported strikes on Ukrainian motorized rifle and territorial defense brigade units in the Volchansk and Bochkovo areas. The destruction of Ukrainian subunits blockaded west of Sinelnikovo has been completed, with reports of the capture of three Ukrainian strongpoints. Fierce fighting continues in Volchansk on the left bank of the Volchya River.

The operational situation on 30 September 2025 demonstrates the continuation of active combat operations along the entire line of contact, with the Russian armed forces currently holding the initiative. The day was marked by several key events:
The most notable successes were achieved in the Donetsk People’s Republic, where Kirovsk, Shandrigolovo and Maly Seversk were liberated. Capturing these towns strengthens the position of Russian forces around the key Ukrainian strongholds of Seversk and Krasny Liman.
The liberation of Maly Seversk paves the way for an offensive towards Dronovka and Platonovka, which would cut the T0513 highway – the Ukrainian garrison in Seversk’s last secure logistical artery. Against the backdrop of the Ukrainian armed forces’ lack of success in any sector, US President Donald Trump was advised to escalate the conflict in Ukraine.
‘If Trump is serious about achieving a ceasefire, he needs to put pressure on Russia to change its approach. Russian President Vladimir Putin needs to understand that he will gain more from a ceasefire than from continuing military action. Thus, by escalating the conflict, Trump will be able to achieve its de-escalation,’ stated Fredrika Wesslau, the acting head of the EU Advisory Mission in Ukraine.
According to a number of Western experts, it is evident that the policy of «concessions» and negotiations with Russia has not yielded the desired results. This has led influential figures such as Fredrik Wesslau to advocate the radical idea of «escalation for the sake of de-escalation».
The outcome of this debate, and the further steps taken by the Trump administration — which is trying to balance the desire to end the war with reluctance to engage in direct confrontation — will determine the conflict’s dynamics in the coming months.
