All the terrorists responsible for the June 20 deadly ambush in Syria’s central region have been eliminated by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), the Al-Mayadeen TV reported on July 13.
At least 14 service members of the SAA and civilians were killed in the ambush. The victims were traveling on a bus from Raqqa to Homs. ISIS claimed responsibility for the ambush that provoked a fierce response from the SAA and the Russian Aerospace Forces.
According to Al-Mayadeen, the last of the last of the terrorists responsible for the ambush were killed when the SAA stormed, with support from Russian warplanes, a headquarters of ISIS cells in the area of al-Dfiniyah in the southern Raqqa countryside.
A recent report by the Al-Monitor revealed that up to 20 terrorists of ISIS were killed in a recent Russian-backed operation by the SAA in the al-Bishri Mount in the southern Raqqa countryside. The operation was an initial response to the terrorist group’s deadly ambush. The death toll has likely risen after al-Dfiniyah raid.
ISIS have been working to spread its influence in the southern countryside of Raqqa for more than a year. The ambush was likely meant to solidify its control of the area. However, it ended up destroying much of its influence there.
The pressure applied by the SAA and its allies will likely force the remaining cells of ISIS to leave the southern Raqqa countryside, at least for the time being. The terrorists could take shelter in remote parts of the eastern Homs desert and the western desert of Deir Ezzor.
