On October 21, Hezbollah continued to launch attacks against the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) from southern Lebanon in support of its Palestinian allies in the Gaza Strip.
In four separate statements, Hezbollah said that its fighters had targeted the military sites of Ruwaisat al-Alam, al-Abad and Hanita as well as a gathering of Israeli troops in Honen barracks in the occupied Shebaa Farms and Kfarchouba Hills with anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), rockets and direct fire.
The group also targeted a tank and an armored vehicle of the IDF in Doviev barracks with ATGMs, according to Lebanese media.
Moreover, Israel’s Magen David Adom ambulance service reported that two Thai workers were wounded by shrapnel from an ATGM fired by Hezbollah fighters at the settlement of Margaliot. One was said to be in moderate condition after sustaining an injury to his chest, and the other was slightly hurt.
From its side, the IDF said that its drones, tanks and artillery targeted a post and a vehicle of Hezbollah in addition to fighters who were preparing to fire rockets and launch ATGMs.
Hezbollah acknowledged that one of its fighters was killed by Israeli fire. Lebanese media reported that a total of three fighters lost their lives during the day. However, this is yet to be confirmed by the group.
Commenting on the escalation on the Lebanon front, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that Hezbollah had been paying “a heavy price” for its missile, rocket, and shooting attacks against Israeli military sites, troops, and Israeli towns in northern Israel in recent days.
“Hezbollah has decided to participate in the fighting, we are exacting a heavy price from it,” Gallant tells troops at the 91st territorial division base, at the Biranit camp near the separation line with Lebanon.
Hezbollah and its allies, including the Hamas Movement and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, began launching attacks from southern Lebanon just a day after the October 7 surprise attack against Israel.
As of October 21, the clashes have claimed the lives of seven Israelis, including a civilian, 14 fighters of Hezbollah, five Palestinian fighters and four Lebanese civilians, two of whom were journalists. It is worth noting that the number of Israeli casualties could be higher, but the IDF’s strict censorship makes any reports of casualties impossible to verify.
Clashes on the Lebanon front are expected to intensify even more once the IDF begins its planned ground invasion of Gaza.
