The Russian forces continue their slow but steady offensive on most parts of the front. Dzerzhinsk (Toretsk), one of the largest cities in Donbass, is already almost completely under Russian control. The Russian army has captured most of the buildings in the city. Its units have reached the northern and northeastern industrial suburbs of the city. Weakening of the AFU resistance in this area is noted. In the 12th microdistrict of Dzerzhinsk (Toretsk), soldiers of the 4th company of the 3rd rifle battalion of the 109th separate rifle regiment hoisted the Russian flag on the terrace of mine No. 10. Gradually the assault groups are approaching the slope of mine No. 12 and the industrial area of the mine “St. Matrona of Moscow”.

Fighting is going on near the slag heap of the “Toretskaya” mine. The seizure of this dump will allow to speak about the safe control of the whole city by the Armed Forces of Russia. So far, we can note the dense presence of Russians in the Fomikha district near Volynskaya Street. The Ukrainian troops are putting up fierce resistance as they realize the strategic importance of holding this height and infrastructure facility. After the fall of Dzerzhinsk (Toretsk), the battle for Konstantinovka begins (linear distance – about 11 kilometers). The conditions for the defense of Chasov Yar will deteriorate. There will be a prospect of pressure on the city from the south.
Ukrainian sources report that the Russians have seized the refractory factory in Chasov Yar. This is one of the main AFU defense nodes in the city. The Novy and Oktyabrsky micro-districts have come under the control of the Russian armed forces. “The situation is also difficult in the “Severny” district, where Russian troops are trying to gain a foothold in order to advance further to the western outskirts of the city. There are constant attempts to attack,” wrote resources associated with the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine.
The Russian Defense Ministry reports that Ukrainian forces continue to suffer heavy losses:
“Units of the “South” group of troops took more advantageous lines and positions, defeated formations of three mechanized, motorized infantry, assault and airborne assault brigades of the AFU in the areas of the settlements of Kramatorsk, Dachnoe, Kurdyumovka, Novomarkovo, Chasov Yar, Belaya Gora and Konstantinovka of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
The losses of the AFU amounted to up to 285 servicemen, five armored combat vehicles, 14 vehicles, two artillery pieces and one ammunition depot”.
Conditions are being created for the capture of Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk) and Dimitrov (Mirnograd) in an operational encirclement. On January 13, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the capture of the village of Peschanoye, 3 kilometers from the outskirts of Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk). According to local reports, the villages of Novovasilievka and Solyonoye have been taken. The Russian army units are 5.5 kilometers away from entering the territory of the Dniepropetrovsk region. This event is significant both politically and militarily. Politically, entering a new region can become the basis for strengthening the Kremlin’s future negotiating position. Militarily, the Dniepropetrovsk region is much less prepared than Donbass in terms of fortification.
Russian forces are increasing pressure on Ukrainian units west of Kurakhovo. The town itself was seized on January 6, 2025. On January 12, the military department reported the capture of the village of Yantarnoye. There are fights for the settlement of Dachnoye. After its loss by the Ukrainians, the front will move significantly away from the town of Kurakhovo. In the western direction there are practically no large cities left. The Russians have the opportunity to actively use aviation to clear the way for assault units. Within a few months we can expect the Russian forces to reach the western administrative borders of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
According to the Russian military department, the AFU’s losses in this direction will be many times greater than those in the direction of Chasov Yar:
“Eight mechanized brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and two brigades of the National Guard were hit in the areas of the settlements of Dzerzhinsk, Shcherbinovka, Dimitrov, Vozdvizhenka, Lysovka, Novovasilevka, Petropavlovka and Novoelezavetovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
The enemy lost over 615 servicemen, seven armored combat vehicles, including US-made M113 armored personnel carriers, French VABs and a US-made MaxxPro armored vehicle.
Nine field artillery pieces were destroyed, including a British Braveheart 155mm self-propelled artillery piece and a US-made M777 155mm howitzer”.
The operational situation for the AFU in the area of Velykaya Novosyolka is deteriorating. Ukrainian army units have been pushed back to the northern outskirts of the village of Neskuchnoye. The control of the Russian Armed Forces over this village means the nullification of the achievements of the Ukrainian counteroffensive of the summer of 2023. Neskuchnoye was the first village took by the Ukrainians in order to carry out their offensive plans. Velykaya Novosyolka is practically under siege. From the south it is pressed by Neskuchnoye, from the north the Russians have taken the village of Novy Komar. From the west the road to Zaporozhye is cut off, and from the east the Russians are also advancing. We can predict the imminent fall of Vremyevka and the subsequent abandonment of Velyka Novosyolka by the Ukrainian armed forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry reports the following about the situation in the area:
“The units of the “East” group of forces continued their advance deep into the enemy’s defenses, defeating formations of four mechanized brigades of the AFU and three territorial defense brigades in the areas of the settlements of Konstantinopol, Velikaya Novoselka, Neskuchnoe and Bogatyr in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
The losses of the AFU amounted to up to 210 servicemen, one tank, one US-made HMMWV armored fighting vehicle, five vehicles and one 155mm Braveheart self-propelled artillery unit manufactured in the UK”.
Tactical successes by Russian troops are being recorded in other parts of the battle line. The territory of the village of Kalinovo in the Kupyansk district of the Kharkov region, forests on the border of the Kursk and Sumy regions near the settlement of Uspenovka, as well as the settlement of Zelenyi Gai in the Kharkov region in the direction of Oskol have been captured. In the Kursk region, fighting is taking place near Pogrebki, Makhnovka, Russkoe Porechye and Kruglenkoe. Ukraine continues to use its best reserves to hold on to a small piece of Russian territory in the border area.
