Turkish Forces Shelled Syrian Army Post In Northeastern Syria (Videos)

On September 24 afternoon, the Turkish military and its proxies shelled a post of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in Syria’s northeastern region.

The post in question is located near the village of al-Tawilah to the west of the town of Tell Tamr in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah. Like most of northeastern Syria, the area is controlled by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Local activists shared several videos of the Turkish shelling on al-Tawilah. No casualties or material losses have been reported as for now.

The SAA and the Russian Military Police established a network of positions in northeastern Syria in the wake of the 2019 Turkish-led attack on the region. The army maintains a large presence in Tell Tamr and its surroundings to secure the M4 highway, which links al-Hasakah with Raqqa and Aleppo.

The motives behind the Turkish shelling on al-Tawilah remain unclear. Not much fighting between Turkish-backed militants and the SDF was reported around Tell Tamr in the last few days.

Turkey may be testing the waters before launching a new large-scale operation in northeastern Syria, or responding to the recent strikes on its proxies in the northwestern Syrian region of Grater Idlib.
