Two Turkish soldiers have been killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the Syrian northwestern region of Afrin, the Turkish General Staff staid in a statement on March 27.
According to the statement, the incident took place on March 26. Turkish troops were on a sweep and clear mission in an area captured from the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG).
In the period between January 20 and March 18, Turkish forces captured almost entire area of Afrin, including the city of Afrin, from the YPG.
The Turkish military is currently conducting efforts to clear mines, improvised explosive devices and hideouts left behind by YPG members.
Separately, Turkish forces killed 11 alleged members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the southern Turkish province of Hatay,which borders Syria, in an overnight operation.
According to the provincial authorities, security forces supported by aircraft spotted and neutralized Kurdish fighters in the Arsuz district. The bodies of six of militants, M-16 rifles, a rocket launcher and ammunition were seized.
