Two U.S. Bases In Syria Attacked In Apparent Response To War In Gaza

Two United States bases in Syria were reportedly attacked early on October 19 in what appears to be a response to the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

Syrian and Iraqi media reports said that a salvo of rockets hit a U.S. base in the Conoco gas plant in the eastern governorate of Deir Ezzor. Large explosions were reported inside the base. U.S. troops sealed off the surrounding area after the attack.

At around the same time, at least three suicide drones attacked al-Tanf garrison in the southeastern region. U.S. troops were reportedly on high-alert when the attack took place.

The results of the two attacks remain unclear. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) is yet to acknowledge the attacks and provide details.

A day earlier, two air bases hosting U.S. troops in western and northern Iraq were attacked with suicide drones. CENTCOM admitted that one of the attacks resulted in losses. Later on, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of Iranian-backed armed factions, claimed responsibility, announcing the launch of an operations room in support of Gaza.

The attacks on Conoco and al-Tanf might have been launched by he Islamic Resistance in Iraq, or by Iranian-backed Syrian armed factions.

The war in Gaza erupted on October 7 as a result of a surprise attack by Hamas and other Palestinian armed factions against Israel. The strip has been under Israeli bombardment since then, and reports suggest that a ground invasion is near.

Iraq was not the only country to be touched by the war in Gaza. In Lebanon, Iranian-backed Hezbollah and its Palestinian allies have been launching attacks against Israel in the occupied Shebaa Farms for more than a week.

Israel struck Syria’s two main airports in Damascus and Aleppo after the outbreak of the war. However, there was no response.

The attacks on U.S. bases in Syria were likely motivated by the al-Ahli Arab Hospital massacre in Gaza, which saw nearly 500 civilians being killed in an Israeli strike, according to Palestinian health officials. The U.S. unconditional political and military support for Israel was not bent by the horrific massacre.

the united states has no place in syria they are occupying syrian land and resources without its the syrian governments permission. this is a crime by international law i hope that they get evicted one way or another. but as long as jordan turkey iraq host us airforce units its difficult for a country like syria to remove these illegal occupiers from syria by force. syria dousnt have the military capability to extract the pressure required to eject them from their territory.
