A pinpoint airstrike by the U.S.-led coalition eliminated on August 21 an ISIS cell in the district of Tarmiyah north of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
“The International Coalition for Operation Inherent Resolve conducted an airstrike to support our Iraq partners in Tarmiyah, 21 August. The coalition provides aviation, intelligence and logistical support to the Iraqi military in the fight to Defeat Daesh [ISIS],” the coalition said in a statement on August 22.
Maj. Gen. Yehia Rasool, a spokesman for the Iraqi Commander-in-Chief, said in an official statement that the coalition carried out the airstrike upon an official request from the Iraqi military joint command.

Iraqi security forces maintain a tight grip on Baghdad and its outskirt. Nevertheless, ISIS cells are still very active in the region.
Last month, ISIS terrorists killed Brig. Gen. Ali Hamid Ghaidan al-Khazraji commander of the military’s 59th Brigade in a well-planned ambush in Tarmiyah.
The incident has apparently pushed Iraqi government forces to take drastic measures to secure the capital with direct support from the U.S.-led coalition.
