Ukraine’s Desperation On Full Display As Russian Army Tightens Grip On Pokrovsk (Videos)

On November 4, the Russian military tightened its grip on Pokrovsk in Donetsk, expanding its control within the key city and repelling multiple counterattacks. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s attempts to distort the reality of the situation in the city got more and more desperate.

The Tsentr [Center] Group of Forces made additional gains in the northern and eastern parts of Pokrovsk, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, which noted that the the 2nd and 51st armies are currently leading offensive operations in the city.

“Russian units have liberated four buildings in the Prigorodny residential area, and 31 buildings in the private sector of the eastern part of the Tsentralny District,” the ministry said in its daily briefing.

“Gnatovka and Rog are being mopped up from Ukrainian militants. Twenty-four buildings have been liberated,” it added.

The ministry also reported more gains by the 5th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 51st Army in the city of Myrnohrad, also known as Dimitrov, right to the east of Pokrovsk.

The unit captured 17 buildings in northern, eastern, and southeastern parts of Myrnohrad and moved towards the Zapadny neighborhood, according to the ministry.

In addition, Russian media reported an advance by the Tsentr Group of Forces in the northern outskirts of Rodynske located right to the north of Pokrovsk. The advance there came as Russian troops continued to repel a counterattack by Kiev forces in the settlement itself.

The Russian MoD said that a total of ten attempts by Kiev forces to “escape the encirclement” in Pokrovsk were foiled by the Tsentr Group of Forces to the north and northwest of the city. It added that three attempts to unblock foreign mercenaries from Grishino were also thwarted.

“The enemy has lost more than 30 militants,” the ministry stated.

One of the attempts foiled by the Tsentr Group Of Forces to the northwest of Pokrovsk involved a helicopter landing by special forces. The attempt was likely carried out by the Ukrainian military intelligence which lost an entire unit during a similar operation in the same exact area last week.

Interestingly, in a very desperate media stunt, the Ukrainian military intelligence released footage from its last failed landing near Pokrovsk.

The video revealed that the landing took place a few kilometers to the northwest of the city, confirming that the Russian military was very much in control of that whole area. Other than that the footage included nothing of substance, and many of the scenes appeared to be generic combat footage, very likely from other directions.

The stunt, which was meant to raise the morale of Ukrainian troops, backfired very badly, with even pro-Ukrainian German Bild journalist Julian Röpcke criticizing it.

“The entire video, airborne operation and battle of the GRU special unit is about 2-3 occupied buildings that are technically not even inside the city limits.

Gives an impression what *would* be needed to liberate the city.

Won’t happen,” Röpcke wrote on X.

Meanwhile, all reports coming out from non-government Ukrainian sources indicate that very much all the roads leading to Pokrovsk and nearby areas are now de-facto blocked by Russian drone operators, specifically, the elite Rubicon unit. The possibility of withdrawing from there is getting slimmer every day, but the order is yet to come from Kiev.

In fact, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in his most recent remarks rejected claims that the Russian military was advancing. He said that Russian troops “have not had any success” in Pokrovsk “in recent days,” a claim that goes against every verified piece of information that recently came out from Russian and Ukrainian media.

Unless Ukraine launches some surprise large-scale counterattack, the battle of Pokrovs will likely end very soon with a Russian victory.

Even a counter attack like this will likely just prolong the battle and increase Ukrainian losses, without changing the balance of power.
