On the night of October 7, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched drone strikes on the Russian western border regions as well as on the Republic of Crimea. The night attack was not that massive but resulted in some damage to Russian rear infrastructure.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, in total, Russian air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 21 Ukrainian UAVs in five Russian rear regions. Most of Ukrainian drones targeted the Republic of Crimea. 12 Ukrainian drones were destroyed over the peninsula last night. Six more UAVs were destroyed in the border Kursk region, three drones were destroyed in the western Russian Bryansk, Belgorod and Voronezh regions.
In the morning, at least two more Ukrainian UAVs were destroyed by Russian air defense in the border Belgorod region. Ukrainian drone strikes are likely to continue during the day. Most often, they cause damage to civilians in the Russian border areas.
As a result of the night attack, a fire broke out at a fuel depot in the port town of Feodosiya located in the eastern part of Crimea. The footage confirmed that two barrels caught fire as a result of the strikes.
According to local reports, a fuel spill was avoided and the attack resulted in no casualties.
The local authorities introduced the regime of a local technogenic emergency in the town until the consequences of the fire are eliminated.
Today’s strikes resulted in limited damage to Russian infrastructure but the Armed Forces of Ukraine are clearly aimed to disrupt fuel supplies to the peninsula from the mainland. In late August, Ukrainian Neptune missile attacked one of the port of Kavkaz. one of the largest passenger ports in Russia located in the Krasnodar Kray. The port also allows cargo transfer to the Crimean peninsula. As a result of Ukrainian attack on August 22, a railway ferry with fuel tanks sank.
