Hezbollah targeted on July 28 two gatherings of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) near the Lebanese border, ignoring recent threats by Israel.
In separate statements, the group said its fighters struck a gathering near the settlement of al-Manara and another near the settlement of Shtula using “suitable weapons” in support of the Palestinian people and resistance in the Gaza Strip as well as in response to overnight Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon.
Hebrew media confirmed that both settlements were hit. However, material losses were only reported in Shtula, where a fire broke out.
The attacks came amid high tensions between Israel and Lebanon after a projectile hit the Druze town of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan Heights a day earlier, killing 12 children and young adults. The IDF held Hezbolalh responsible and vowed to respond. However, the group denied attacking the town.
While Hezbollah continues to launch attacks, it is taking Israel’s threat seriously. According to Reuters, the group had preemptively cleared out some key sites in both Lebanon’s south and the eastern Bekaa Valley.
Hezbollah and its allies have been launching attacks from Lebanon against the IDF since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza Strip October.
So far, the border clashes have resulted in 12 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least 18 IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 500 people have been killed, including 365 fighters of Hezbollah and over 100 civilians.
Any further escalation by the IDF could lead to an all-out war as Hezbollah is guaranteed to step up its attack against Israel.
