The Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, was summoned for consultations in Moscow in order to identify ways to smooth “the Russian-American relations, which are in poor condition,” according to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
” The new American Administration has been in power for almost two months, the symbolic milestone of 100 days is not far off, and this is a good reason to try to assess what the Biden team is doing well and what is not. As for us, the main point is to determine the ways to smooth the Russian-American relations, which are in poor condition, and which Washington has lead to a dead end in recent years. We are interested in preventing their irreversible degradation, if the Americans realizes all associated risks. ” – says Zkharova’s statement published in Telegram account of Russian Ministry.
Commenting on the situation itself, the Russian foreign ministry spokesperson described the move as ‘unprecedented’.
The Russian ambassador was recalled after U.S. President Joe Biden called Putin a “killer in his interview and vowed Russia to “pay” for meddling in U.S. elections.
The same day, Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs replied to the report of secretary general of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, claiming that all military communications between Russia and NATO were cut off. According to NATO 2020 report that was also published on March 17 , the Russia-NATO Council meeting did not take place the last year due to the fault of the Russian side.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, Alexander Grushko, responded that there was no agreement on the holding of such Councils, as NATO abandoned all the structures of preparatory process.
“The Council consisted of a working group, a preparatory committee and the Council itself at the ambassadorial level. All elements except the meetings on ambassadors’ level were destroyed by them, they no longer function ” – he said.
The recent deterioration of diplomatic relationships between Moscow and Washington is taking place amid the on-going military conflict in Eastern Ukraine and launch of large-scale NATO military exercise Defender Europe 2021. Its main area are the Balkans, Black Sea and the regions close to the Russian border.

NATO tried to take control of Khaliningrad, a few years back, but, Russia zapped the Aircraft Carrier and it had to limp into the UK for Naval Healthcare. Allegedly, part of the story, at the time, was President Putin was expecting a First Strike from Russia, so when the USS Donald Roosevelt (I think it was that carrier, but, might have got the wrong carrier) and the Polish, were getting too close to Khaliningrad, President Putin was contacted and he gave authorisation for a Russian Submarine to zap the Aircraft Carrier with electrical jammers, similar to what hit the USS Donald Cook, after Crimea voted to return home to Russia.

I lived near the Solent at the time and was stuck on a bus, driving down the local coast road. Bearing in mind, that Gosport, has Carnival Day, when a charity shop opens in the town centre. So a nice sunny, Spring day and the crowds are out, for a picnic down Stokes Bay. Excited by an aircraft carrier, loaded up with military jets, on the decks, image provided. Owing to Portsmouth Harbour not being deep enough to take one of the US ACC, they anchor in the Solent, just opposite Stokes Bay. The ship had just gone through a refit, owing to getting zapped by a French Submarine, during a NATO exercise and the French submarine had the Russian Magrav technology gifted to her, when things were going well and the Mistral Contract was running smoothly, at the time. Anyway, following the surprise visit, there were a lot of stories about the USS Carrier taking the hit and having to get back to the UK for Naval Healthcare.

I agree with the arming up part of your comment but there is plenty more Russia could do. They could start by identifying the American and EU behavior as lying, and psychotic. Call a spade a spade. Withdraw from the MCR and assist small client states with faster and longer ranged missiles. The USA will sanction them but that just creates a larger alternative trade network for Russia and China. Close consulates across Europe and America and reduce relations to bare minimum representation, booting American and EU ambassadors out of the Russian Federation, until they can follow basic rules and follow established decorum. Sign a mutual defense agreement with the PRC. Share missile technology and agree that in the event of conflict with the United States one side will always join the other. Stop pretending there is a relationship to protect with the Western powers. There isn’t.

No one is talking about giving missiles away for free. But right now, trade in missile technology is restricted to missiles under 500km range, by the MTCR. Russia could boost defenses of states like Iran and Algeria by selling them longer ranged weapons that are better at deterring incoming mischief, and forcing the West to pay a price for all the provocations and bad behaviors aimed at Russia. It’s not just me. There are voices inside Russia, including in the Kremlin, in the Defense Ministry, in the State Duma and the FC that have been trying for a harder line with the Americans since 2017. They are all blocked by President Putin and his extraordinary position in Russian politics and history. This period is coming to an end though, through constitutional reform and upcoming legislative elections that lead to a government arising from a Duma majority, not Kremlin fiat. And Mr. Putin himself is approaching is own Kremlin curtain call. His decisions have been based on the Medvedev-Mishutin wing of United Russia politics, aiming still for widespread economic integration with Europe AND a Russian regulated (barely) version of neoliberalism. That’s why Russia continues to turn the other cheek; hope. One should not base foreign and security policy on hope or on the expected constructive behavior of other states. Yes, I misspoke about the missile ranges. The MTCR restricts sharing missile tech with ranges over 300Km, or 180 miles. This is of great interest to the USA as anti-ship missiles currently sold to states like Algeria have ranges that are limited in a way that allows U.S. Navy ships to deliver strikes against them from ranges that they would have trouble answering. It’s why a MTCR withdraw would be painful for the United States. I’m silly. Good. No need to pay any more attention to me. Russia is currently the ongoing target of serious hybrid war efforts and huge NATO exercises on her borders. Sanctions against the RF are doing considerable long term damage both to her economy and the legitimacy of the government to protect the interests of Russian citizens. That’s my opinion. Russia is a member of the Council of Europe, UEFA, Hockey teams from Finland, Slovakia, Estonia play in the KHL. Russians, like they have for centuries, continue to seek approval from Europe. Please. I have been a President Putin fan for a long time. On the whole he has been a good President for Russia, but only in the way that a Patriot would be expected to do in order to cover the bare minimum in defending the country. He stood up but only to the extent he had to, all the while using his street cred to block more Nationalist forces from power and head off harder lines from being followed in foreign policy. There will be no war. At least, no war that a lot of angry people talk about here. War is serious business and an extreme measure. Russia will not jump into it unless attacked explicitly and directly.
