On September 29, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) advanced 600m in the vicinity of the town of Hajin, in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside, and imposed control of 8 new positions following heavy clashes with ISIS fighters, according to the SDF media center.
On the same day, US-led coalition warplanes carried out 9 airstrikes on ISIS positions north of the town of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani and inside Hajin. These actions resulted in the death of 8 ISIS fighters and the destruction of four vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs) of the terrorist group.
Meanwhile, ISIS launched its first notable counter-attack against SDF troops in the town of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani. The terrorist group news agency Amaq said that a two-man suicide VBIED targeted a key center of US-backed forces in the town. Following that, two suicide attackers wearing explosive belts attacked a gathering of SDF fighters.
The terrorist group claimed that many US-backed fighters were killed and injured in the attack. However, the SDF has not confirmed or denied these claims yet.
The upcoming days will likely witness larger defensive operations by ISIS fighters, who are desperate to repel the SDF attack in order to maintain a foothold in the Euphrates Valley.
