On August 4, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) ended its military operation in the southern al-Hasakah countryside and the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside after imposing control of more than 120km of the Syrian-Iraqi border, according to the Kurdish Hawar News Agency (ANHA).

As result of the operation, the SDF sealed the Syrian-Iraqi border on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River. The southern part of the border is controlled by the SAA. Thus, the border line there is now secured from both sides.
“After the liberation of the strategic town of al-Dashisha and the entire Syrian-Iraqi border up to the town of al-Baghuz, we are now in the desert of Deir al-Ezzor city’s countryside and it is completely liberated from ISIS’ mercenaries,” Bakuz Haskah, a field commander of the SDF, told ANHA.
The US-led coalition launched a military operation against the remaining ISIS fighters in al-Dashisha on June 3. Within weeks, the SDF managed to capture the center of the region along with dozens of villages in the southern al-Hasakah countryside and in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside.
The next target of the SDF and the US-led coalition is the ISIS-held pocket along the eastern bank of the Euphrates river. A day earlier, US-backed forces evacuated thousands of civilians from the pocket, which hints that an operation will begin there soon.
