On February 3, warplanes of the US-led coalition carried out a series of airstrikes on hideouts of ISIS cells in the mountains of Makhul and Hamrin in central Iraq.

“According to accurate intelligence, after careful observation and in coordination with the Joint Operations Command, warplanes of the US-led coalition carried out successful airstrikes in the province of Saladin,” the Iraqi Information Security Center said in an official statement.

The Iraqi Ministry of Defense released a 36-scond video showing six airstrikes of by the US-led coalition on caves, trenches and safe houses used by ISIS cells.

A day earlier, the Iraqi military foiled a rocket attack on Ayn al-Assad airbase in the western province of al-Anbar, southwest of Saladin. Three Grad 122mm rockets, which were attached to a timer, were defused only minutes before launch.

Despite the defeat of ISIS in late 2017, the terrorist group’s cells maintained a strong influence in the western part of Iraq. Now this influence is shrinking as a result of the extensive efforts of the Iraqi military, security forces and the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU).
