At the briefing on April 5, US State Department spokesman Ned Price accused Russia of “provoking” Ukraine and the West by pulling troops to its western borders. He claimed about the redeployment of part of the Russian troops to the borders with Eastern Ukraine and in Crimea.
His answer to the questions about Ukraine could be divided into two parts. In the first part he simply repeated the claims that are regularly heard from Washington, accusing Russia. As usually, Price stressed that the American side will “fully support Ukraine” in the face of “intimidation and aggression.”
“And let me say very clearly, as I did last week, that we are concerned by recent escalating Russian aggressions in eastern Ukraine, including the credible reports that have been emanating about Russian troop movements on Ukraine’s borders and occupied Crimea. The movements were, of course, preceded by violations of the mid-2020 – the July 2020 – ceasefire that led the deaths of four Ukrainian soldiers last month on March 26th, I believe it was, and the wounding of two other Ukrainian personnel. Russia’s destabilizing actions undermine the de-escalation intentions achieved through the OSCE-brokered agreement of July of last year.” – Ned Price claimed.
“We asked Russia to provide an explanation for these provocations,” the American diplomat said.
After having claimed the alleged undermining of Minsk agreements by Russia, probably, Ned Price was well surprised that Washington’s partner Kiev was the first to leave the Minsk negotiation process exactly the same day. The Kiev’s decision was made under the pretext of mistrust to pro-Russian Belarus.
The US high politicians are known for preparing the staged press conferences, but this time, a tough question was asked to the State Department spokesman. We propose you to take a look at the video clip showing the discussion:
“I mean, do you believe that this build-up on the Russian side of the border, on Russian territory, is a provocation in that you think it’s some kind of build-up for an invasion? Or is it – do you have a – do you just have an objection to Russia moving its troops around inside of its own territory?” – journalist asked.
The journalist’s question was left unanswered. Meanwhile, US State Department spokesman was accused of windbaggery.
“No, I’m just trying to find out if you think that Russia moving its own troops inside its own territory is intimidation towards Ukraine, I mean, fine. But say that, don’t just say “If it is, then we would have a problem with it.” – the journalist claimed.
According to this press briefing, it is evident that the political position of the United States towards the conflict in Eastern Ukraine does not stand up against logical criticism. The spokesperson have found nothing better then to avoid the question, repeating the same claims and trying to shed his responsibility. Washington is aiming to justify its real hostile movements and military support to Ukraine by conditional clauses.
Ned Price asked the journalist not to “throw a lot of apples and oranges together”. Probably, there were oranges and apples on board of US military transport aircraft moving to Kiev on a daily basis.
At least three military transport aircraft of the US Air Force have arrived in Ukraine over the past four days, according to data from aviation observers.
- C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster III flew to Kiev from the American Ramstein airbase in Germany.
- Another C-17 heavy transport aircraft landed in Lviv after a transatlantic flight from the United States.
- In addition, a British Bae 146-200 transport aircraft from the Polish city of Poznan, where the headquarters of the 5th corps of the US Army is located, was also spotted flying to Kiev.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, continuously stresses out the importance of Western support to his country. During his phone call with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, he claimed the only way to end the conflict in Donbass is Ukraine’s entry into the NATO.
At the end of March, Zelenskiy approved a national military security strategy. The document was mainly dedicated to measures for rapprochement with NATO. Apparently, Kiev believes that pleading and blackmail are those necessary measures.

“The United States provides support to Kiev, but the decision to enter Ukraine into NATO is within the competence of the leadership of the North Atlantic Alliance – Jen Psaki said.
Russia was the only to say the truth to Zelenskiy. The press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov doubted that joining NATO would help Ukraine cope with internal problems, and stressed out that the country’s joining the alliance would further aggravate the situation.
At the same time, Russia launched routine military combat readiness check, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on April 6.
“The troops went to the training ranges to conduct tactical, tactical-special and bilateral exercises,” the minister said at a conference call at the National Center for Defense Management.
According to the ministry, a total of 4048 exercises of various scales will be held during April, including 812 bilateral exercises, at 101 training grounds and 520 facilities of the training and material base. Exercises will take place in all military districts and in the Northern Fleet, as well as in the Far North, the Kuril Islands and Kamchatka, involving all types and branches of troops will take part in them. The coming check was claimed to be one of the reasons of troops movements in Russian territory.
