The Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen on November 22 claimed responsibility for a missile attack that targeted Israel a day earlier, saying that the operation was carried out in support of the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
A Palestine-2 hypersonic ballistic missile was launched during the attack at Nevatim Air Base in southern Israel, Houthi military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Sarea said in a statement, noting that the operation had “successfully achieved its goal.”
“The Yemeni Armed Forces, in response to the crimes of the Zionist enemy in Gaza and Lebanon, will continue their military operations, and these operations will not stop unless the aggression and siege on the Gaza Strip and the war on Lebanon are over,” the spokesman added.
Hypersonic missiles travel and maneuver at least five times faster than the speed of sound at low altitudes in the atmosphere which makes them extremely difficult to track and intercept.
The Palestine-2 is a two-stage solid fuel missile that was first unveiled and used by the Houthis in an attack against Israel in mid-September. The group claims that the missile has a range of over 2,150 kilometers and a top speed equivalent to 16 times the speed of sound.
Late on November 21, the Israeli Defense Forces said that a ballistic missile launched from Yemen was successfully intercepted by its air defenses.
According to the military, the missile was shot down outside of Israel’s airspace. Still, warning sirens were sounded in the Dead Sea area as a precaution amid fears of falling shrapnel. Loud blasts were also reported in the region.
The target of the missile attack, Nevatim Air Base, is home to the Israeli Air Force’s most advanced aircraft, including C-130J military transport planes, Boeing 707 and KC-130H refueling planes, GV Shavit and G550 Eitam/Oron early warning and intelligence planes, F-35I fighter jets and even the Boeing 767-338ER Wing of Zion plane used by senior officials.
The Houthis, who are backed by Iran, have attacked dozens of vessels affiliated with Israel or owned by the United States and the United Kingdom in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea since November of last year. In addition, the group launched dozens of drones and missiles at Israel and shot down at least 12 American-made combat drones over Yemen and nearby waters.
The U.S. and the UK have carried out hundreds of strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen since January. Israel also launched two waves of strikes against civilian infrastructure in the western Yemeni province of al-Hodeidah in July and September. However, the Houthis remain deterred.

ballistic missile is the booster, warhead is hyper-sonic, i.e. maneuverable. ballistic weapon can’t be maneuverable or guided even with hs speed, because it follow ballistic (free fall) trajectory after engine off. warhead should have its own engines for precise guidance.
