Hamas Announces Capture Of Israeli Troops In Northern Gaza Ambush (18+ Video)

The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas Movement, announced early on May 26 that its fighters captured an unspecified number of Israeli troops during a complex operation in the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip.

“Our fighters were able to carry out a complex operation on Saturday afternoon in the northern Gaza Strip, where they lured an Israeli force into one of the tunnels in the Jabalia camp, clashed with it from zero distance then killed, captured and wounded all of its members,” Hamas’ military spokesman, Abu Ubaida, said in a statement.

Along with Abu Obeida’s statement, Hamas released a video that appeared to show a bloodied person being dragged along the ground in a tunnel. The identity of the person and their condition could not be immediately verified.

The video also contained images of military gear and three submachine guns. Unlike previous videos issued by Hamas, the footage was not dated.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) swiftly denied that any of its troops were captured by Hamas in Jabalia or any other part of Gaza.

“The IDF clarifies that there is no incident of a soldier’s kidnapping,” the military said in a brief statement.

The IDF launched a ground operation in Jabalia earlier this month. In recent weeks, it retrieved the dead bodies of seven Israelis who were captured by Hamas during the October 7 surprise attack on Israel. The Shin Bet security agency took part in the efforts to retrieve the bodies.

While Israeli media accused Hamas of spreading propaganda ahead to a new round of indirect talks on the war in Gaza and the fate of remaining Israeli hostages, the group never made false claims in the past when it comes to the capture of troops.

The troops ambushed by Hamas fighters in Jabalia may be from the Sin Bet or another Israeli security agency. It is also possible that they were expendable foreign mercenaries deployed by the IDF in Gaza on high-risk missions. The upcoming days will likely reveal more details on the identity of the captured troops.

It’s worth noting that the IDF has lost 286 troops in addition to one contractor since the start of ground operations in Gaza with more than 16,10 others wounded.
