Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei on October 30 ordered the armed forces to respond immediately and without geographical restrictions to any enemy threat.
State media in Iran said Khamenei delivered the orders while meeting with Armed Forces Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Ali Abdollahi, Army chief Maj. Gen. Amir Hatami and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps head Maj. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi, the Islamic Republic’s top three military commanders.
During the meeting, the commanders briefed Khamenei on military readiness along the Persian Gulf coast, in the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman, as well as along Iran’s northwestern and southeastern borders. They also reported a multifold increase in the production of key munitions, reconnaissance systems, support equipment and weapons.
Khamenei instructed the commanders to ensure that any level or type of threat receives an “immediate, impactful, and geographically unrestricted response,” describing “intelligent combat readiness for a powerful confrontation with enemies” as “a fundamental prerequisite for achieving maximum deterrence.”
He warned that, should Iran’s adversaries resume military or terrorist attacks, “it will be the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic and the Iranian nation that will determine when and under what conditions those attacks will end.”
The supreme leader also ordered the “comprehensive updating of the military target database” to ensure that “all physical and nonphysical assets of the US-Zionist enemy are brought within the reach of the Armed Forces.”
Khamenei called for strengthening intelligence capabilities, developing indigenous military doctrine and tactics, and expanding the use of emerging technologies in defense and security systems.
He also stressed the importance of “strengthening spiritual foundations and the spirit of jihad,” alongside “unremitting efforts to meet the livelihood needs of Armed Forces personnel and provide them with the necessary support.”
Khamenei described public support for the armed forces as “one of the pillars of deterrence against anti-Iranian foreign powers and their domestic mercenaries.”
Referring to eight months of public gatherings across Iran, he called them “a continuation of the Eight-Year Sacred Defense,” saying that, together with the steadfastness of military, police and Basij forces, they “[have] protected, and will continue to protect, the territorial integrity of Iran and the Islamic system.”
He also praised “the intelligent steadfastness of the Resistance Front in various countries,” describing the “unity of operational domains” as “a decisive factor with a strategic impact on shaping the new political and security order in West Asia.” He said he hoped the emerging order would increasingly “lay the groundwork for unity among Muslim nations and governments and the formation of the New Islamic Civilization.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, Khamenei expressed satisfaction with the measures taken by the military and asked the commanders to convey his “gratitude and profound appreciation” to military, police and Basij personnel, Defense Ministry staff and their families.
The meeting comes amid mounting reports of preparations for renewed U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran. Washington had reportedly urged regional allies to prepare for possible military action and Iranian retaliation after the November 3 U.S. midterm elections.
Khamenei’s latest directions indicate that the Islamic Republic is planning to respond on an unprecedented scale to any attack.
