Russia’s Kalashnikov Group has showcased the Kub-10ME loitering munition for the first time on May 22, more than three months after first unveiling the system.
The Kub-10ME was shown to journalists by the group’s CEO Alan Lushnikovm who said that “the munition was developed based on the work in the theater of the special military operation and implements all the latest solutions as requested by the customer.”
The loitering munition has a basic design, with a high-wing configuration, v-tail and the electro-optical guidance system placed in the front like a seeker. It also appears to be propelled by a two stroke fuel engine.
The Kub-10ME was first unveiled on February 25. At the time, Kalashnikov revealed that that the system has a range of 100 kilometers and can perform tasks at altitudes from 80 to 1800 meters with a cruising speed of 120 kilometers per hour, during day and night, in simple and complex weather conditions.
One of the key features of the Kub-10ME is its electro-optical guidance system, which allows it to engage moving targets, and offers higher protection against electronic warfare. The loitering munition can be operated in manual, semi-automatic, and automatic modes.
Kalashnikov also said that the loitering munition has improved protection against electronic warfare and air defense systems.
In addition, the Kub-10ME is equipped with an aerial photography and video recording system that records on-board mission data.
Kalashnikov has been expanding the development and production of unmanned systems, mainly benefiting from the vast experience Russia has accumulated from the special military operation in Ukraine. The operation has turned Russia into one of the world leaders in drone technology, and the country will likely be able to secure a large share of the global market in the near future.
