On November 29, the Russian military expanded its control to the south of the key city of Krasny Liman in Donetsk and resumed advance in a new direction in Nibbhouring Kharkiv.
The Zapad [West] Group of Forces has been engaged in a fierce battle with Kiev forces in Dibrova, located right to the south of Krasny Liman across the road leading to the city of Siversk. The area of Varadero to the southeast of Dibrova, where Ukrainian troops were trapped, have been reportedly cleared.
The success in Varadero will allow the Zapad Group of Forces to allocate more resources to the battle inside Dibrova itself.
The capture of the settlement would allow Russian troops to advance northwest towards the road linking Krasny liman with Raihorodok, a logistic hub of Kiev forces.
It’s worth noting that the Zapad Group of Forces is already advancing in two directions, near Drobysheve and close to Yarova, to cut another road that reaches the city from the north. This road is already under Russian fire, but still physically open.
Meanwhile to the north in Kharkiv, the Zapad Group of Forces resumed operations around Borivska Andriivka. Russian troops have reportedly advanced several kilometers to the west of the large settlement, mainly in the direction of the Oskil River.
The main target of the advance appears to be Novoplatonivka, which is located right on the Oskil. If the settlement is captured, all areas to the north along the same bank of the river, including Bohuslavka and Nova Kruhlyakivka, will be under a semi-site. In addition, Russian troops will be able to pressure Kiev forces in Borova from the north.
Operations around Borivska Andriivka could develop quickly if Ukraine failed to organize its defenses. Of course this is likely to happen due to the shortages Kiev forces are facing.
All in all, the battle in Krasny Liman could enter its terminal phase soon. Still Kiev forces could hold up in the city for a few more months. In Borivska Andriivka, any mistake by Ukraine will likely be costly. If the Russian military decides to focus in this direction, a collapse along the Oskil all the way down to Donetsk could happen.
