Overnight Russia–Ukraine Exchange of Strikes — Logistics, Energy, and Oil Refineries

Support SouthFront

On the night of May 20, Russia and Ukraine conducted mutual strikes using attack drones and missiles. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian forces deployed 154 UAVs and one Iskander-M ballistic missile targeting seven Ukrainian regions. Russian air defense claimed to have shot down 273 drones over Russian territory. The strikes hit logistics facilities, energy infrastructure, and oil refineries.

Strikes on Ukraine

Russian forces that night concentrated their efforts on industrial sites and transport infrastructure. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, an industrial zone and railway logistics facilities were hit by a combined Iskander-M and Geran strike. In the city of Dnipro itself, a warehouse owned by Alpha Development Group was hit. In Kamianske, a drone strike disabled a locomotive.

In the Odesa region, port infrastructure was attacked once again. Fires were recorded at hangars and warehouses. DTEK confirmed a strike on energy infrastructure in the region.

The Mykolaiv region was struck: data from the FIRMS satellite fire-monitoring system recorded a blaze at a transformer substation near the town of Novyi Buh. In the Sumy region, after strikes on targets in Konotop (including a hit on a residential building) and Shostka, power outages were reported.

Strikes on Russia

Ukrainian forces attacked industrial facilities deep inside Russian territory. In the Kstovo district of the Nizhny Novgorod region (780 km from the Ukrainian border), the Kstovo oil refinery was attacked. Ukrainian sources reported damage to the crude oil primary processing unit at Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez.

In the Stavropol region (540 km from the front line), the Azot chemical plant in the industrial zone of Nevinnomyssk was targeted for the seventh time. The raid was still ongoing at the time of this report.

In the Yaroslavl region, a strike on the Yaroslavl-3 oil pumping station near the town of Semibratovo preliminarily damaged four storage tanks with a combined capacity of 140,000 cubic meters.

In the DPR (Donetsk People’s Republic), the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck Snizhne. OSINT analysis indicated that the administrative and accommodation complex of Mine No. 9 “Udarnik” was on fire.

The night of May 20 brought no breakthroughs for either side. Russia continued to pressure Ukrainian port and railway logistics, as well as the power grid. Ukraine, for its part, struck Russian oil refineries and chemical plants. By the scale and nature of the targets, this was a routine tactical exchange — with no signs of preparation for a major escalation.
