Intense fighting persists in the vicinity of Kleshcheyevka and Andreevka to the south of Artemovsk (Bakhmut). The warring sides launch constant counterattacks on the ruins of the destroyed small villages and heavy artillery duels prevent each of them from gaining the strongholds in the settlements. The frontlines remain almost unchanged in the recent days.
As of September 18, the southern and central parts of Kleshcheyevka are under Ukrainian control. The northern part remains in the gray zone and under Russian fore control. Currently, the Russian positions are deployed on the northeastern outskirts of the settlement and behind the railway. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have not yet established a foothold in the central part of the village, largely due to the extensive destruction of most buildings and continuous artillery fire.

The situation is similar in Andreevka, with most of the ruined village lying in the gray zone and Russian positions deployed along the railway line. The AFU control adjacent landing areas and the western outskirts of the settlement.

The village of Kurdyumovka remains under full Russian control, which prevents the Ukrainian military from advancing eastwards because of the threat of the Russian flank attacks by reserves deployed from Kodema.
The main goals of the Ukrainian military is to disrupt the supply to the Russian grouping in the Bakhmut region. To achieve this, the Ukrainian military is attempting to cut the highway from Kodema to Artemovsk. By launching constant attacks on the Kleshchevka-Andreevka-Kurdyumovka frontline, Kiev forces aim to breach Russian defensive line and cut the Bakhmut-Gorlovka highway. The constant shelling of the roads used for Russian military supplies by Russian artillery is one of the reasons of the Ukrainian advance in the region.
The Artyomovsk region was one of the main directions of the Ukrainian counteroffensive, where the AFU have so far failed to achieve any strategic victories. The village of Klescheevka partially came under the Ukrainian control several times but the AFU were repelled by Russian forces. The villages south of Artemovsk were destroyed by heavy battles, which complicates the manoeuvres of the attacking forces there. Despite the hasty claims from Kiev, the AFU are yet to take control of Klescheevka and Andreevka.

in war, in most cases dead and severely injured bodies only attract more dead bodies. everyone wants to rescue their brothers but sometimes it’s the wrong decision. they learned this a lot in ww2 in the pacific islands. if you get hit you have to be prepared to not have anyone save you.
